Multi Fuel Stoves: A Better Way to Heat Up The Household
A More Cost-Effective and Greener Way to Keep Households Warm
Most households today use gas stoves and electric fireplaces in heating up their home. These kinds of heaters depend on natural gas and electricity in order to produce fire. While these kinds of burners are convenient and easy to use, they are not really too environmentally friendly, mainly because these stoves uses the earth’s ever decreasing natural gas and other resources. Moreover, the gas uses to operate gas stoves are harmful, and the use of electric fireplaces is not too practical nowadays with the rising electricity charges. Because of these disadvantages of the usual household heat source, a new kind of heater surfaced the market: That is the multi fuel stove.
Multi fuel stove is a household furnace that gives off heat through the use of different fuel resources. Multi fuel stoves are actually similar to the traditional wood burners that use wood; only that multi fuel stove can be activated by using resources other than firewood. Unlike gas stoves and electric burners that depend on flammable gases and similar sources of energy, the multi fuel stove, as the name suggests, can be operated using several materials as fuels including firewood, wood pellets, bio-diesel, coal and even coke and corn!
Contrasting gas stoves and electric fireplaces that are not too beneficial to nature, multi fuel stove are environmentally friendly. It also releases carbon dioxide in the air, the smoke that comes from it are not as harmful as emissions of gas-powered stoves. Tar deposits are also lessened when using the multi-fuel stove. Moreover, they have this homey appearance like the traditional wood fireplace that adds a cozy but classy touch to any home.
So what is the downside of using multi fuel stoves? Well, one thing is that it is quite harder to install and maintain. It also operates slower than other burners and the fire does not last for long periods. But other than that, multi fuel stoves are quite more desirable than other burners.
Multi fuel stoves may really be the answer to the people’s reliance to gas stoves and electric fireplaces nd burners. It is recommended for people who live in cold areas that consume tanks of gases and high amount of electricity for their heaters. Multi fuel stoves require only cheap materials in order to create heat, thus, decreasing the consumption of energy and lessening heating bills.
Cost-effective and nature-friendly – these are the two major advantages of multi fuel stoves that cannot be found in other stoves and burners. Now that you already know the benefits of multi fuel stoves, it is up to you to decide whether you would patronize this furniture or just stick to your own heat source preference.

Unrest in the Middle East Prompts American Homeowners To Explore Alternate Heating Fuels
[Chambersburg, PA – March 3, 2011] - The recent protests in middle eastern nations such as Egypt, Libya and Tunisia has caused home heating oil prices to rise, spurring interest in alternate heating fuels. The volatile environment in Libya, where conflict continues as leader Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi refuses to step down despite international pressure and escalating violence, has prolonged uncertainty in the market. Oil prices continue to climb, while an already tight economy in the U.S. has homeowners concerned that they have enough heating oil to finish the season. Looking ahead, some analysts have predicted that oil prices could surge as high as $220 a barrel if Libya and Algeria were to halt oil production.
In response, many Americans are turning to new energy efficient heating systems that burn environmentally friendly, renewable fuels. The top choice for replacing traditional heating oil is wood burning stoves and furnaces, which burn a variety of wood and wood by-products. The New England states, Northwest and Northern Mid-West regions where wood is plentiful and harsh winters are common have seen the largest increase. Some pockets in the Northeast that are seeing a resurgence in coal heating, particularly northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York where hard anthracite coal is readily available.
Although the more recent furnaces and boilers are much more efficient than their forebears, only a handful of manufacturers currently produce models which exceed 90% efficiency. One of those manufacturers, Alternate Heating Systems, LLC, located in south central Pennsylvania, has produced the patented Wood Gun TM, one of the oldest names in wood gasification boilers, and also the Coal Gun TM, it’s high-efficiency coal burning counterpart for over 30 years.
“Our Wood Gun TM gasification technology process burns the wood so completely there are hardly any particulates released into the air. It’s been rated at 97% efficient.” comments Brian Wise of AHS. “This level of efficiency creates a huge cost savings in burning alternate fuels. Homeowners are finding that they can save up to 70% of their home heating costs with a hydronic heater and they have the option to completely eliminate the use of oil, natural gas or propane, or replace a large percentage of that usage with wood, biomass, or coal,“
High-efficiency alternate fuel hydronic heaters are more expensive than traditional furnaces, however they need less fuel to meet the same heat demand and those fuels are much cheaper which make these units able to pay for themselves over time and well worth the investment.
Wise believes the industry has a lot of room for growth due to the rising and unstable costs of oil, concerns over U.S. dependency on foreign products, and a growing environmentally conscious climate. “In Europe, wood burning heating sources have skyrocketed on both residential and commercial levels and there is a lot of potential here in the U.S.“

ALTERNATE HEATING SYSTEMS, LLC RELOCATES TO CHAMBERSBURG, PA
[Chambersburg, PA – February 14, 2011] - Alternate Heating Systems, LLC, a local manufacturer of innovative heating products for over 30 years, has relocated to 1086 Wayne Avenue in Chambersburg, PA. The move allows the company room to expand their growing operations into a facility with 80,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space. AHS manufactures wood, coal, multi-fuel and waste oil boilers, and are best known for their patented Wood GunTM and Coal GunTM boilers. Their focus on advanced technology in wood and biomass burning devices led them to develop the Wood GunTM which an independant testing laboratory called “the most efficient wood burning device built today.” They provide solutions suitable for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
Alternative heating products have been gaining in popularity due to rising fuel prices, concerns over dependence on imported fuels, and increased focus on environmentally friendly solutions. In addition, the AHS wood and coal burning boilers have proven to provide a significant reduction in heating costs for their customers. Demand for their products has created such a strong, steady increase in sales; it has forced AHS to search for larger facilities twice in the past three years.
The new location on Wayne Avenue provides enough space to incorporate all of production and manufacturing along with sales and office staff in one facility, streamling the business. Easy access to Interstate-81 makes it convenient for customers to visit the showroom to see the products in person. AHS owner, Brian Wise, is positioning the business to become a predominant manufacturer of heating products within the U.S. and Canada.
“The move is really key to increasing our production, cutting costs and helping us reach our goals as a company. We have already started working on initiatives which are now possible for future expansion, such as building our own lab for UL and EPA testing,” Brian says. “This will also allow us to do more testing and development on the products to continue to improve and refine them.”
Brian and his staff consistently show pride and confidence in their products as they speak in absolute terms of having the best products on the market.
“The Wood Gun gassification boiler is an extremely reliable boiler that incorporates cutting edge technology for the highest level of efficiency. Our Wood Gun customers have cut their heating costs by up to 70%. The Coal Gun is another effective solution for customers. The average commercial unit will pay for itself within a two-year period. The smallest model will provide heat for an entire home including domestic hot water at 50% or less than the cost of conventional oil, gas or electric systems,” comments Brian. “Our boilers have helped customers saves thousands of dollars over the years in their homes, farms, and businesses. And they are available with various sized augurs, which reduces the amount of labor needed to operate them. The larger ones can go for days without needing refilled.”
From reading their customer’s testimonials, it’s apparent the AHS staff is not the only ones who think pretty highly of their products. Although they just landed on Wayne Avenue, there is little doubt in the minds of the AHS team about where they are headed as a company. With this level of confidence and determination, it’s just a matter of time until they get there.

The Texas Fireframe Grate Harnesses the Laws of Physics to Make a Hotter, Easier to Start Fire
A father’s invention becomes a daughter’s business: It’s been 35 years since a research physicist with credentials ranging from Harvard to the Manhattan Project invented a fireplace grate that directs more heat into the room. Now his daughter discovers a hot market for her dad’s invention.
Cos Cob, Connecticut, December 2, 2010 - - It all began when Austin physicist Lawrence Cranberg was tinkering with logs in his fireplace and invented a grate that opens up the hottest part of the fire to the room. He drew international attention to the humble fireplace in the midst of the 70’s energy crisis with his Texas Fireframe(R) grate - dubbed “The Physicist’s Fire” by Time magazine.
His daughter Nicole had just graduated from high school. Little did she know her dad would sell his invention for the next 35 years, amassing fan mail from warm, happy customers - including the governor of Texas - and someday pass the business on to her.
Someday is today. At age 93, Dr. Cranberg is taking a well-deserved rest, attributing his longevity to many years of lifting his 27-lb invention and transporting the units from the welder who makes them in central rural Texas.
Nicole, a UT grad who landed on Madison Avenue says, “I feel very proud to carry on my dad’s message, his product and his commitment to wood burning as a renewable, eco-friendly, and valid source of heat for the 40 million homes with fireplaces in the U.S. His invention makes a beautiful fire while maximizing the heat output of every log.”
In celebration of the Texas Fireframe grate’s 35th anniversary, she created a new website at http://www.texasfireframe.com, a blog, a new logo and fireplace grates in two additional sizes. But the design of the grate remains unchanged: adjustable arms open up the hottest part of the fire to the room. Instructions show how to arrange different size logs on the Texas Fireframe grate, which can handle split or unsplit logs up to ten inches in diameter.
Nicole counts herself among the ardent advocates of her dad’s smarter fireplace grate, having kept a fire going on hers for 24 hours straight when her home was without electricity last spring. (The grate was recently highlighted in a survival guide written by NASA robotics engineer Arthur T. Bradley.)
Discovering a hot new market for the Texas Fireframe grate, she added, “I’m thrilled to be marketing a product that will never go out of style, never be technologically obsolete, never need service and never burden the environment - we ship it unboxed, and at the end of its very long life, it’s recyclable. I’m especially proud to market a product that was invented by my father.”
The Texas Fireframe Company is a family business whose signature product is the Texas Fireframe grate - a fire grate that harnesses the laws of physics to direct more heat into the room and less up the chimney. The business was founded in 1975 by research physicist Lawrence Cranberg, PhD, inventor of the Texas Fireframe grate. Considered by many to be the best fireplace grate available, it’s made of hot rolled steel and comes in three sizes. Dr. Cranberg has transferred responsibility for the company to his daughter, Nicole Cranberg. For more information, please contact us at 877-806-6464 or http://www.texasfireframe.com/contact-us.html

BioHeatUSA changes name to Tarm Biomass
Nothing is as constant as change…..
Greetings from Lyme, New Hampshire
As you may know, in 2008 with the introduction of the Scandtec and Fröling boiler lines, Tarm USA, Inc. launched the brand “BioHeatUSA”. The brand launch was quite successful and the brand has become well established. Unfortunately, another company has claimed that our “BioHeatUSA” brand name is too similar to their “Bioheat” brand name and is causing confusion in the marketplace. Bioheat is a brand name used for #2 home heating oil that has a small amount of biodiesel added to it.
We disagree with Bioheat’s claim of market confusion – we sell equipment and they sell fuel - however, their trademark registration was made just prior to ours and we have chosen not to fight this out in the courts, but instead to change our brand name again. As before, the corporation remains “Tarm USA, Inc.”, however the “doing business as” brand name is now “Tarm Biomass”. Tarm is still the most well known brand in the industry and we are very pleased to have the Tarm name back in our logo. We will, of course, continue to be the sole North American representatives for Tarm, Scandtec and Fröling.
Please note that all email addresses for Tarm Biomass employees should be changed from “name@bioheatusa.com” to “name@tarmusa.com”. Please also note that the new website address is “www.TarmBiomass.com” .
As before, this is a change of name only. The people behind the brand remain the same passionate, well informed individuals that have been leaders in the wood and pellet boiler industry for two generations. We look forward to maintaining and deepening our relationship with our customers and dealers and together continuing to bring the best biomass boiler products and service to the North American market.
Warmest regards,

Earth’s Flame™ wins 2010 Green Award at the HPBA Expo
Hearth & Home honors Earth’s Flame™ hybrid retrofit for reducing fireplace emissions
Corona, CA—Earth’s Flame™ took top honors at the 2010 Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Expo’s 10th Annual Vesta Awards where they were presented “The Green Award”. Earth’s Flame™’s http://www.earthsflame.com environmentally-friendly fire grate was honored for its revolutionary design and superior technology for reducing emissions in wood burning fireplaces. The Vesta Awards are presented by Hearth & Home Magazine and were created as a recognition of accomplishment in the Hearth and Outdoor Room categories. The Green Award was presented by Richard Wright Editor of Hearth and Home and Gil Wood from the EPA at an industry-wide ceremony that drew a crowd of over 1,700 members on March 12, 2010 at the Expo.
The Vesta Awards (http://www.vestaawards.com )recognize and honor companies and specific products for innovation in design and/or technology. Judging teams were made up of retailers, distributors, product designers, test lab engineers, affiliate leaders and industry experts, and were selected to be a balanced representation of different disciplines. “Earth’s Flame™ worked diligently to develop a product worthy of The Green Award,” says Lisa Leighton, Owner of Canterbury Enterprises located in Corona, California. “We created a simple retrofit solution for most existing fireplaces. It allows homeowners to once again enjoy their fireplace. The product is ‘Green’ because it improves ambient air quality and reduces the health risks associated with harmful emissions. This award is an honor for Canterbury Enterprises and great news for our environment.”
For years Air Quality Management Districts all over the United States have told homeowners when they can and cannot use their wood-burning fireplaces depending on air quality. In many areas, such as Southern California, wood-burning fireplaces were banned in new construction. Earth’s Flame™ has created a solution. Earth’s Flame™ looks forward to working with air quality authorities to amend and create positive guidelines and with the EPA to promote their Burn Wise program. The hybrid retrofit grate reduces emissions 33% below the Phase 2 Emissions Level of the EPA’s Voluntary Wood-Burning Fireplace Program as tested in a typical 36” zero clearance fireplace. Pollutants from wood burning fireplaces will be reduced up to 72% by using the Earth’s Flame Grate/Log Lighter System.
Earth’s Flame™ was developed by Canterbury Enterprises and engineer Steve Marple of Project Services International of Bayfield, Colorado to reduce fireplace emissions and preserve the tradition of wood-burning home fireplaces. “Earth’s Flame™ would like to get our environmental grate into the approximately 38 million existing wood-burning fireplaces in the U.S. This grate will help reduce the 50,000 to 70,000 tons of particulates per year created by wood-burning fireplaces, decrease health risks of individuals from smoke inhalation and save the government millions of dollars in related health care costs,” adds Leighton. “My dad, Joe Leighton, had a vision and a love of wood-burning fireplaces. He changed the industry by inventing the Blue Flame™ Log Lighter to ignite wood in fireplaces. Now we have gone a step further and made wood-burning fireplaces Green!”
About Earth’s Flame™
The new hybrid retrofit for wood-burning fireplaces features a gas-enhanced combustion system combined with an emission-reducing grate. Earth’s Flame™ (patent pending) can be retrofit into almost any fireplace, and requires no maintenance. Its 304 Stainless Steel construction ensures the reduction of pollutant emissions with the same efficiency over the entire lifespan of Earth’s Flame™. The unique design addresses the three “T’s” of good combustion: Time, Temperature and Turbulence. Earth’s Flame™ starts with a Blue Flame™ Log Lighter underneath the fire grate that creates a rapid and sustained ignition of the wood diminishing the initial smoke when a fire is lit. The refractory plate above the fire keeps combustion gases in the fireplace longer for more complete combustion. The refractory plate also prevents gases and particles from going straight up the chimney and it creates turbulence. The resulting fire has reduced harmful emissions.
Where to Find Earth’s Flame™
Coming this summer, Earth’s Flame™ will be available at: fireplace retail stores, fireplace distributors, plumbing wholesalers and hardware stores.
For more information on Earth’s Flame™ visit: http://www.earthsflame.com or call (888) 201-8805.

###
About Canterbury Enterprises
Over 55 years ago, Joe Leighton, the founder, came up with the idea of bringing gas into fireplaces. He designed the Blue Flame Log Lighter™ and gas valve, to eliminate the frustration of lighting fires with paper and kindling. This family-owned business wants to keep the American tradition of families gathering around a wood-burning fireplace, while improving air quality and reducing the health risks associated with inhaled fireplace smoke.
A New Green Fireplace Concept: Burn Wood and Reduce Emissions
Earth’s Flame™ hybrid fireplace retrofit reduces wood burning emissions up to 72%
CORONA, California—April 21, 2010—Earth’s Flame™ introduces a hybrid fireplace retrofit for wood-burning fireplaces that may prevent the extinction of the traditional American-family fireplace. Innovative and effective, the fireplace retrofit won the 2010 VESTA Green Award at the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Expo. More importantly for consumers—Earth’s Flame™ reduces emissions 35% below the Phase 2 Emissions Level of the EPA’s Voluntary Wood-Burning Fireplace Program as tested in a typical 36” zero clearance fireplace. Official burn tests compliant with ASTM E-2558 show an average emission factor of 3.3 g/kg; this is up to a 74% reduction in standard fireplace emissions.
Lisa Leighton, Owner of Canterbury Enterprises states, “Earth’s Flame™ offers a simple solution because it easily retrofits into most of the existing fireplaces and allows home owners to once again enjoy their fireplace. We extol the “Green” nature of the product because it improves ambient air quality and reduces the health risks associated with harmful emissions.”
Independent studies estimate that there are approximately 37 million households in the US with one or more fireplaces that emit 50,000 – 70,000 tons of harmful pollutants each year. Due to pollutants and emissions, many homeowners are not allowed to build a wood-burning fireplace in new housing, use their existing fireplace, or they feel guilty about burning it. In Southern California, the South Coast Air Quality Management District has banned wood burning fireplaces in new construction.
With the high price of energy and the tightening air quality regulations, many homeowners are frustrated and confused. Earth’s Flame™ is a cost-effective and viable solution for new and existing fireplaces that dramatically reduces fireplace emissions. “The reason most fireplaces have such high emissions is because they have poor combustion,” explains Steve Marple, Project Engineer. “Earth’s Flame™ promotes good combustion and we believe it has the added benefit of directing more of the fire’s heat into the living space.” Official burn tests compliant with ASTM E-2558 show an average emission factor of 3.4 g/kg; this is up to a 72% reduction in standard fireplace emissions.
