triple wall chimney clearance to combustibles - # 1001

Question:

recently i purchased some “ameri vent” triple wall stove pipe from a private party. i am planning on using this for a woodstove installation. the pipe is U.L. approved and labeled FB 6, calls for 2” of clearance, and has a galvanized outer wall. is this adequate for a woodstove application? the private party had this same set up with no problems. will this meet inspection guidelines? any other advice is welcome.

Answer:

No, that series of Amerivent chimney was UL 103 listed to withstand 1700 degrees, not UL103 Type HT tested to withstand 2100 degrees.  You would need to upgrade to Amerivent Ameritec or another UL103 Type HT listed chimney for your wood stove application.
