3 Questions on Surdiac Coal Stoves - # 1028
Question:I have been heating with a Surdiac Gotha 713 coal stove for the past 18 years. My reliable source for high quality anthracite coal (pea size) unfortunately is no longer in the business. I reside on Long Island, NY. My 3 questions are:
1- Do you know of a reliable source of high quality coal in my area?
2- Can I use this stove as a wood stove?
3- If I decide to discontinue use of the coal stove and switch to a wood stove, can I use the same chimney system?

Answer:
1. Try the folks at Blaschak coal at blaschak@prolog.net
2. No, the firebox and heat exchangers are too small
3. Yes, it is probably a class A prefab or masonry chimney which is fine for wood. However, if you have been using the chimney for 18 years, you might to have it checked out before you burn wood in it.
