Cordwood vs Compressed Logs - # 1077

Question:

Craig, I have noticed that a large number of dealers burn compressed logs in their displays as opposed to using cordwood. Have you had any experience one way or another as to the benefits of each (i.e. how many tons of logs would be equivalent to a cord of wood, BTUs for each etc.)

Answer:

Hmm, in our area of the country (east) most use real logs. However, the BTU content of most wood is the same PER POUND. So, the compressed logs are very similar on a weight to weight basis. Of course, the compressed wood is pre-seasoned and ready to burn. No insects and rot either!
