buck stove and coal - # 1310

Question:

I have a new (3years old) buck stove with a catalytic element.  Is there anything I can do to modify this stove to burn coal? It cost too much to buy it, to just set it aside.  And, if I am stubborn and burn coal in it anyway, what bad things will happen?  Thanks

Answer:

This stove cannot burn coal. Coal must be burned in stoves that are specially designed for it. They need a shaker grate, large ash pan and other features. It just plain will not work..plus, you will poison (ruin) the catalytic element in your stove.
