Is the tube in my fireplace really gas logs? - # 1385

Question:

Renting a house for a job assignment away from home, so don’t want to spend a lot of money. House has a wood burning fireplace with gas ignition, produces a 4 to 5 inch yellow flame and has a “keyed” valve in wall next to it. Burner has horizontal jets on both sides. Rental agent says ” just put gas logs in and go with it. Spoke to local retailers of gas log and ” it’s not that simple”

Answer:

No, that is an igniter…not designed for constant use. Either stay with wood (even Duraflame) or buy a real set of Gas Logs.
