Low heat generating fireplace - # 1436

Question:

I am looking to install a fireplace that has a good flame and does not generate lots of heat.  So far the only suggestion is to install a wood burning fireplace and then install gas logs.  Is this my only option?

Answer:

Gas is one option. However, most masonry or pre-fab wood burning fireplaces do produce a nice flame and do not produce heat. Make the choice depending on your lifestyle…if you’d like to start wood fires, go the wood route. If you simply want to turn a switch, get the gas.
