Woodstove with open seam (crack) - # 1440

Question:

we recently got a used wood stove but did not notice that the seam is starting to pull away inward a bit along the side at the bottom. is there a way to fix this? it is a longer shorter stove not a potbelly one. can you email me as soon as you can please. thank you.

Answer:

Use high-temp black furnace cement, available in most stove shops and hardware stores. Dampen the area before applying. Apply from the inside if possible, forcing it into the seam.
