Gas insert for fireplace - # 1456
Question:Craig: Great site-feel as if I just took a course in the subject! I am searching for the best direct vent, 60-70% efficient fireplace insert I can find. Can you suggest brands which fit this description that are safe, reliable, good looking and which can be converted from propane to furnace use of gas if I get a gas furnace in the future? (You said there were some that could not be converted.) Thanks in advance…!

Most direct vents can be converted…it’s vent frees that have the biggest problems.
Look at gas inserts by Travis Industries (http://www.travisproducts.com/) and also Mendota (http://www.mendotahearth.com)...these are very decent models. There are lots of others that are good, and part of the proper decision is finding a dealer that you feel comfortable with.
