Question:

Where should a damper be placed in the vertical section of stovepipe for a woodburning stove? There are no bends in our stovepipe.  Thank you for your assistance.

Answer:

Most newer stoves do not require a stove pipe damper as they are tight enough so draft can be controlled from the air inlet. If you have an older stove, a damper may help to increase heat output and lengthen burn time. In this case, 1 to 2 feet above the stove would be a good location.
