Hearth construction - # 1573
Question:I just completed building a hearth for my wood stove. My wall is
protected with durock covered with Z-Brick.
The durock is hanging on several metal studs which are connected to
sheetrock which is connected to plaster which is connected to a brick
wall. No wood in wall.
The metal studs keep the durock spaced 1 inch from the sheetrock with
ventilation on the top and bottom of the hearth.
Is this construction ok??? Thanks for your help.

Answer:
More than good enough. If there is not any wood in the wall, then you are doubly safe. All clearances from stoves are given to combustible materials. Since there are none there, you are more than fine.
