circulation of heat from a wood stove - # 1586
Question:We have a wood stove in the lower level of our home. In the lower level it is almost hot and the upper level (only a 2 level house) it is almost cold. We have tried turning on the fan of our heat pump to circulate the warm air, however, the air from the vents still seems cold. Someone suggested placing a bathroom exhaust fan close to the wood stove and vent it to the ducts. We like the warm heat of the woodstove versus the cold heat of a heat pump. Please help!! Any advise will be welcomed!!

Heat sometimes needs to have a circulation pattern in order to spread well. Without this, it can pool (get struck) in one area - exactly what is happening with you.
The best solution might be a vent in the ceiling of the room that the stove is in which lets air into a hall upstairs. Not knowing the home layout, I can’t say exactly where to put it, but use some common sense and try to establish a circulation pattern…
