cast iron stove - painted vs enamel - # 1588

Question:

We are building a house and are putting in a wood stove. we are curious
to the difference between cast iron and enamel. Thanks for your imput.

Answer:

Enamel is applied (usually) OVER cast iron. The porcelain enamel used on stoves is a layer of a special colored glass powder which is baked onto the cast iron parts at a high temperature.
