Lighter fluid or kerosene to start fire? - # 1761

Question:

safe or not? Can I put lighter fluid, or kerosene oil on a wood log in my fireplace to get it going?

Answer:

In general it is not good practice, however there are stone &cape cod& lighters that you can put kerosene in an place this under your logs to start. The difference here is that the liquid is soaked into a porous stone so it is released slowly to the fire.
