Comparing modern stove efficiencies - # 178
Question:Any way to get data or info to help me compare stove efficiencies. I’ve got a jotul 118 and a 1979 Defiant and want to make an informed comparison to what is available today. Thanks for the site- its great. JHG

It is published by the EPA- but does not mean much as it is the result of one lab test (burning softwood).ALL the newer stoves that pass the clean air standard (and they must in order to be sold) are MUCH more efficient than your older models.For instance- the units you mentioned probably operate at 50% efficiency- while newer units operate at 70%+
