Vermont Castings Encore burn soft woods - # 1783

Question:

Can the Encore burn softwood (dried spruce or fir) that we have in Maine? Will the catalyst get clogged even in hot modes? Can we use the Encore on an 18 foot straight run 6” metalbestos chimney? It’s rated for an 8”. Will it draw enough in the closed mode? You guys should set up a web site about burning issues (sic). Thanks. aaron

Answer:

The answer is…........YES! The Encore can burn softwoods, as this is common out west as well. And, the Encore should be able to operate fine on a 18’, 6” run as it’s certified to operate with a 6” flue collar. In fact, a cast iron flue collar is available. If the draft is sluggish during normal operation, you may increase the height of the chimney to help, but normally it would be fine.
