Re: HELP! Wood burning asthma - # 1921
Question:Bought a house 11/99 with a wood stove (Vermont Castings Dutchwest Federal Convection Heater). I have gradually developed asthma. Every thing I read makes me suspect byproducts of burning wood. Beginning to panic. I like everything about this heating system except getting sick. Can’t really afford $5000 to put in some other type of system. Any ideas?

Answer:
If you are ultra sensitive to the byproducts of wood smoke, then their may be little hope. Even if a stove is running correctly there are small amounts of smoke released into the home when starting and loading.
If these small amount set you off, then it might be wise to stop burning wood.
