Ventless in New York State - # 199
Question:I live in western New York and have a 66 year old house with a non-functional gas fireplace (actually- just the brickwork and 3” exhaust pipe). I would like to make the fireplace functional again- but the story I keep getting here is that the best I can hope for is to rip out the brick work and put in a direct vent job costing $2000-$3500. A ‘ventless’ system interested me. Do you have any experience with New York laws and can you tell me where to get more information on this type of unit?

New York State did not orginally allow Ventless Logs, but the code has changed and they are now permitted (2002)
