Renew Brick on Chimney? - # 2107

Question:

We have a house about 28 years old.  We have done many renos but the chimney is lacking.  The bricks are off color in places and need a face-lift.  Is there a cost-effective way to treat the bricks?

Answer:

There are many possible ways to do this.

You could try to clean them with many of the compounds available at your masonry supply yard. Then you could seal them, which gives them a deeper color.

You could also stucco over the bricks.
