Advice on wood stove VC Vigilant rebuild - # 2117
Question:I recently acquired a 1985 VC Vigilant combo coal/wood stove.All in all it is in very good condition. A flashlight revealed that some of the seems need to be repaired. Are there any tips or words of advice on the rebuild? IE type of Rutland or other product to use for the seems. Anything to look out for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rutland black furnace cement is good stuff. Clean and dampen the seams before you apply it. Whenever possible, apply the cement from inside the stove…it looks and works better. If you must apply from outside, press it into the seam and clean off excess with wet rag.
