Small tin airtight stove - # 614

Question:

I don’t know who makes them or even what the name of this stove is. I’ve heard it called a airtight stove or a flip top stove.  It is a small tinny stove about 3’ tall,1’ wide and 2’deep.  It says on it not for residential use.  I am wondering if it is safe to use in a garage.

Answer:

I’ve seen hardware stores in rural area carry these stoves.

Most building codes ban the use of woodstoves or any heaters with flames in a garage cause of the possible existence of low lying gas fumes (from cans, etc,).

So, I can’t punch your ticket, you’re on your own - if the garage is detached, the codes may differ - check with your local building official.
