What pellets have burned well in your Harman XXV?

We’re getting 1 ton of New England pellets when our Harman XXV stove is installed next month (waited to get a Saturday installation date) and need to order 2 more tons (the most we can store at one time is 3 tons). I’ve seen various prices for different pellets & don’t want to order 2 tons of pellets that won’t burn as well (or produce more ash, etc.) just to save a few bucks. So what pellets have you burned in your Harman XXV that you’ve been happy with (or not happy with & I’ll want to avoid them)? We’re in Southern Maine, heating a 1,250 sq ft ranch.

Thanks for your input!

Pellets are quickly losing cost advantage .

Right now pellets here in Berkshire county (western Ma) are $250-$290 a ton and I was told the price won`t be any lower this summer so I ordered mine to be delivered tomorrow.
The volume of pellet stove traffic in the showrooms in this area is unusually brisk and unprecedented for this time of year which will undoubtedly result in many sales and more pellet useage adding to the marginal supply that already exists. You can bet pellet prices will increase substantially and according to demand and demand is certain to rise. The energy situation definitely doesn`t look good no matter what you heat with.
I ordered pellets today for next season

Well I ordered pellets today for next season. Where I live, delivery from folks like pelletsales or any similar folks is non-existent.

I got 5 tons at $264.50 a ton, plus a $300 delivery fee. They will come with either a fork-truck or a boom, to unload them close to where I need them. And these are the high-energy, clean burning Energex pellets. I got them from Curtis Lumber. They are supposed to deliver Tuesday. So I’m feeling pretty good.

My stove store sent out an early-buy ad for NEWP hardwood pellets (8000 btu/lb instead of 9000 btu/lb for the softwood Energex ?). They were $225 a ton, the delivery fee was maybe $250, but they weren’t sure what the fee would actually be, and they have no way to unload - they toss the bags one at a time onto the ground.

Hopefully per btu I made out almost as well, plus with the convenience of good unloading.

I figure I’ll burn a little more than 5 tons a year, and I have almost a ton in the basement, so with these I should be set until next summer.

Replacing Heat n Glo gas fireplace with Harmon Accentra Insert question about the flue

As the title indicates I am replacing a built in Zero Clearance Heat n Glo 6000XLT gas fireplace with a Harmon Accentra Insert with Zero Clearance Box. My question is in the flue. My gas fireplace has a direct vent flue that goes up through my roof. The direct vent flue has a inner liner that is 5” and an outer that is 8” (Double Wall) The inner vented the exhaust from the gas fireplace and the outer was the fresh air intake for the fireplace. My question is can I attach the flue from the Pellet stove to the inner 5” of my existing flue, or will I have to run a new 3” or 4” pipe up the existing flue? I am sure this is as clear as mud.

Thanks,
Aaron

Could this upcoming season be a repeat of 05’ ?

I hope all the veteran burners are remembering the price increases and shortages after Katrina.
In reading many recent threads I sense this will again be a banner year for pellet stove sales.
Get your pellets now.....
I’m not trying to start a panic… I just remember trying to get a ton and being told I had to reserve them.

Thoughts?
Opinions?
Anyone think we’ll have a shortage this year?
Any predictions on price?

It’s been a LONG time since I started a post..... Mods feel free to move this where you see fit......

Looks like the newenglandpelletllc website only offers this “Warm Front” brand for us CT residents, they do not sell the “New England” brand here except for NY/NJ.

Any comments on this “Warm Front” brand ?

They said it is the same New England pellet but in different bags.....
