When replacing a stove that exhausts through 8” pipes with a new one that runs on 6” pipes, where should the 6” to 8” increaser go? i.e. as close to the stove as possible and run mostly 8” pipes to the ceiling, or as close to the ceiling as possible and run mostly 6” pipes?

I would think draft would be better if you maximized the amount of 6” pipe.

Pretty sure I’ve read here that if you’re going to do that do as close to the stove as possible.

I vote for running as much 6in pipe as possible.

It’ll keep the flue gases hotter, increase their velocity, decrease the residence time of the gases in the flue and improve the draft.

I put my 6 to 8 increaser at the ceiling. I want to keep the flue gasses as hot as possible for as long as possible. So far no problems with draft.

In the duravent catalog, it states they want their increaser as close to the chimney as possible.
