View E-Z solar wood drying still

I know this sounds crazy, but it really works.

If you have a old crasher station wagon or suv or hatchback, that is dark colored so that it sucks up sunlight & gets unbearly hot inside in the summer time , you have the perfect solar still or kline for drying & seasoning some of your high moisture content firewood.

Just fold down the back seats & put some newspaper down & put the logs you want to dry out on the newspapers & park the car in the sunlight & close the doors & windows. Leave it out in the sun all day & check back about 11 pm or midnight. When you open the car, there will be moisture from the wood condensed on the insides of all your windows. Wipe this off with some paper towells & set the towells somewheres where they can dry out so you can use them again tomorrow night for more of the same.

When the windows stop getting wet, its either not cold enough at night to condense the water from the logs or the wood is dry. This works in the winter time too. But you get ice inside the windows. This also works with lighter colored cars, just not so well.

it helps speed up drying to change the air in the car by opening the doors for 5 minutes ,twice a day. and you can experiment with opening the windows a bit, open the windows to much & you loose solar heat, but a tiny air circulation that retains most of the heat yet allows drier outside air to enter will help speed wood drying.

This is an effect I noticed in my 1998 dark blue honda civic hatchback, when I left the car in the sun & a stack of rounds in the car for 2 days & nights in oct & the insides of the windows were covered in ice in the morning.

I have not experimented with it much yet, too many other demands on my time, but I just read a post of the guy that left his woodpile uncovered & it got rained on & al his nice dry wood got soaked & that made me think of this
which lead to this wiki article.

And thems that don’t already have junker station wagons can go shopping at the local junk yard.
Try it in your buddies busted up junker first, if you don’t have one of your own, for a test to see if it does good enough to interest you.

Another though is a stretched taunt, black tarp on the back of a pickup bed full of wood but you need to make some araingement so that WHEN the water that condenses on the underside of the tarp, at night, that the water can flow off to one side & not go back to rewet the wood. The tarp would have to be tilted so the water could flow off to the outside of the bed.

I know,I’m nuts; your BillShipMeter just went off the scale & ran the bell.——That is, until you try it & see for yourselves.

Science don’t lie. How efficient it will be ;I make no promises. I only noticed the effect & that it seems to me that it will work. Make your own tests & post your results here.
