Q: What is the Hearth Wiki
A: It is a place for our users to add articles and also to edit and improve upon articles.
Q: Who can create and edit articles on the Hearth Wiki?
A. Anyone! But you have to be registered first, which must be done on our Forum Area. The link to the Hearth.com Forums is at the top of your screen. Once you register, you will be able to post in the Forum AND in the Wiki. If you do not register, you can read but not add and edit – both here and in the Forums.
Q: Why a Wiki?
A. Many of our readers are in the trade and have extended information about certain subjects that can help our general readership. Also, there is a lot of history in the stove and fireplace business and this will become an archive for much of that before it disappears altogether.
Q: Why no spell check? Why no formatting features?
A: Wikis are intended to be quick – in fact the word Wiki means doing something quick in Hawaii. As such, there is not a lot of complicated formatting. If you have spelling problems you can write in a word processor and then paste it in here afterwards – or else someone else will fix your spelling – that’s the great thing about wiki.
Q: OK, How do I start?
A: Read the Wiki General Instructions and then get started. Don’t worry about making mistakes because the administrators or someone else will fix them. If you have a great article and don’t feel comfortable posting it, please email it to webmaster@hearth.com and I will take care of it for you.
