Category:Wiki Help

Anyone can post or edit articles in the wiki. The only requirement is that you must be registered on Hearth.com. Registration also allows you to participate in discussions at our Forums.

At the top of the screen you will see a blue bar which indicates whether you are registered and logged in. If it says “guest”, then you are either not logged in or registered. To register and/or login, click the link in the center of the blue bar that says “Back to Hearth.com Forums”. At the top of the forum page you will see a link to register or login.

OK, we got that out of the way, now you can post or edit articles here.

1. Adding to or editing an article

This is easy. When you are reading an article you will see an “Edit” link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click this and the story will become available in a text box for your editing/writing.

2. Creating an article

On the left side of this page is a small text field that says “Create New Page or Find Page”. Place the title of your new article in that box and hit the “Go” button. You will then come to a page that says “No article with this title exists, click edit to create one”.

When you click edit you are presented with a blank box to write your article – you can also write in your word processor and then paste it into the box.

3. Categories

Note: The editors will assign a category if you do not – so this part is optional.
Categories are assigned by placing the following in the top line of your document:

[[Category:Wiki Help]]

The above would put your article in this category “Wiki Help”. You can put your article in an existing category or create a new one.
If you like, you can ignore this and just place an article and someone else will file it correctly.

4. Wiki Tags

The Wiki Help link under the Navigation menu will explain some tags which allow you to put clickable web addresses, etc. into your documents.

Here are some basic – notice the wiki uses the little square brackets on your keyboard for all formatting:

This text is not boldThis text is bold.

This text is italicizedThis text is underlined.

http://www.your-site.com/

my site

NEW FOR 2007 – we have enabled Textile, a simple way for you to format text in the wiki. See:
