(back) Subject: gas logs-millivolt valves From: apalm@webtv.net (tony) Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 11:29:51 -0400 Do any of you have trouble with millivolt (remote) valves? It seems as if every time we sell a gas log with remote capability we get callbacks, so we try to steer the customer to manual valves, which are trouble free. Other than recommending no more than 20 feet of wire to a wall switch, there doesn't seem to be anything else we can do to anticipate a problem. We also get a lot of bad (Skytech) remotes. (back) Subject: Remote Problems From: Craig Issod <webmaster@hearth.com> Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 14:09:30 -0400 These are usually fairly easy to diagnose....HearthNet gets a lot of questions about wall thermostats not working. Using your manual for exact instrucions, it is easy to jump the valve at the appliance...then check the thermopile millivolt output. Chances are if these check out, the valve is fine. The problem is then in the wire/thermostat/connections/remote control. We've had bad thermostat wire, nails through the wire, bad connections and all the rest...but these are easier to fine after you are assured that the valve is good. ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com Webmaster@hearth.com Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------
