Likes: What an absolutely AMAZING stove. My partner and I are somewhat new to woodstoves and after researching all the reviews on this site decided that the Jotul's seem to fare best and are generaly favorably reviewed. I can see why! The first thing right off the bat is how well made the stove is, solid and beautifull. We have ours vented horizontally through an interior wall and then straight up through the roof. I thought this might cause a draft issue but with the help of a good 12 feet worth of chimeny the stove draws very well. It lights like a dream (I crack the ash pan door a little and its like turning on a blower underneath your kindeling!) just remember to shut it after your fire is going strong. The air controls are awsome, its very sensitive and allows for fine tuning the burn nicely. The stove also maintains its heat very well, and very evenly. Gets my little cabin up to 70 in about an hour and a half and keeps the chill off overnight which, in Upstate New York, is saying something. Its very good on wood and the viewing window stays clean if you keep a good hot fire going, It's also entertaining watching the little fire tornados burning in the stove. Burns about 5-6 hours on a good loading, And still coals for the morning (maybe you might have to throw a stick or two in during a midnight bathroom trip but no big deal.) Generally a very quality stove.

Dislikes: THERE ARE NONE WHATSOEVER

Comments: You can tell we love this stove. The Guys at Cricket on the Hearth up in Rochester did a fantastic install for us. Seeing as we had to go almost imediately through an interior wall and up through a corrugated metal roof. The roof required a special rubber gasket to allow the chimeny through and it was class 'A' stainless almost all the way after the back of the stove. The guys at Cricket worked very closely with us right from the beginning, asked for pictures and measurements (cause they are a good hour or so away) The owner was always happy to answer my questions, was always pleasant, and thanked me for calling every time. What great folks to do business with. Glad we got the 500 its big enough, and in our application, it IS the only heat source. Sure beats that 50 gallon barrel stove we bought the house with!
