Comments: I replaced an exsisting (Acorn Voyageur Large)non epa woodstove with this Jurassien model. What made me chose this model was that it's epa approved, secondary burn, it's size is relatively small, but it's heavy (415Ibs) which tells me it wil radiate heat more effectivly, plus I can keep my clearnces to combustables to a minimum. This unit uses half (that's 50% less!)wood than my old stove for the same heat. But the heat is much less spikey, the old stove would drive us out of the room. This stove delivers heat much smoother and even. I use very dry well seasoned cord wood (less than 17% moisture) for a very effective secondary burn. The front glass washes well from the flame front,although the firebox is somewhat small so an unbalanced split piece of wood has rolled forward hitting the glass, so be carefull. A full firebox of soft and hardwood (4 to 5 medium split pieces) has lasted about 5 hours down to small coals. This unit has heated our family room of approx 400sq ft and spills into the rest of our house and keeps our oil furnace at bay (as in off). We are also installing a Masonry Heater (Heat kit) in the central part of our house soon, and with our eco energy audit the combined grants(provincial and federal plus the tax rebate program) will pay for the stove plus about 500 bucks for the masonry heater, so it's a win win!.
