I am intrigued by the Bk's....would love to test drive one for a month.... :)

I really don't care what it looks like as long as I get the performance outta it that I want....which is......
a "mean heating machine" that I do not have to babysit.... >:-(

I don't think the BK's are that ugly....

think of it this way....sometimes you go on a date with someone that you do not find that attractive at first, but, after spending some time with the person you find them way more attractive....

This is a pretty good way to put it!

Similar to when you date really good looking people sure they look great on the outside but man do a lot of them turn out to be a pain in the butt. Kinda like the pain the butt some of these "good" looking stoves cause with their wanting to be loaded every 8 hours or less or only wanting a few pieces or they get too hot. :)

"I have one, and I love it, period." You forgot that in the poll.
It's been such a mild winter, only a few days going below 0 °F , I almost forget to reload.
Just re-loaded, 25 hours on a load of Aspen, enough coals to relight the new load without issue.

BUT- with soft wood and really cold temps., the stove comes up short. Soft wood will outgas too quickly, causing the CAT to hit temp., but not heating the stove the way it should.
EX- with the CAT. at 1500 or so, the stove top won't hit 600. 500- 550 is the norm. Flue temps. are the same or lower.

For those that burn hardwood, yeah, you'll like this thing. "Jabba the Hot" will find a place in your hearts.

People buy cars and choose partners based on looks ,so why not wood stoves. Looks matter,i probably would NOT buy one no matter HOW well they performed. They are downright homily in pictures. That said i just bought a stove based almost exclusively on looks and was very surprised that it performed so well.

Eye of the beholder. Kinda like the ugly woman who is a great cook and enjoys cleaning.
+1!!!! hahaha!! You know what happens when you marry one of those, you get FAT AND MISERABLE......gimme a good looking woman THAT CAN ALSO COOK......in other words, I'll take a good performing stove that also looks good, especially for the big money!!! Sad thing is, there is no reason that BK can't make those stoves look more attractive. The need to get a better design team in there to work on the outside of the unit, the inside is near perfect.

After joining this site, all the discussion made me curious about BKs. I looked them up online, nearly lost my lunch! :ahhh: I suppose, after a while the beauty of the performance makes you forget about the crossed eyes and snaggle teeth. But then, I'm an optimist.

Message to blaze king,Redesign your stove exteriors, here are some suggestions.
WHats with the diamond shape sides NOT Good
Also the angled front, too small door.
On the king
Make the stove STRAIGHT, SIDES AND FRONT
ENLARGE THE FRONT DOOR(door is much too small for the stove) AND PUT A LITTLE ARCH IN THE DOOR TOP (NOT SQUARE)

All models dont look the same but the king is the most obnoxious looking.. IMO

Just a simple poll for all of you that are repulsed by the styling of the current line.

Do I like the looks, nope but it's all about heating your house so if it does the job who cares.

By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy; if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher. - Socrates

Not a big fan of what I've seen in the pictures, but those long burn times on the larger models have to be a thing of beauty all in themselves, stove style notwithstanding.

Now, if I could have a 15 hr burn time on a stove that looked like my Oslo, THAT would be a beautiful stove!

 IMHO, the Buck is just sort of simple and utilitarian in appearance. I do like the arched door and sidelights and the beveled front corners. I just went back and looked at the BK King again. Man, that bulging waistline is FUGLY!

I'd like to see photos of these stoves you guys own that are somehow much better looking than a Blaze King. I don't think I have ever said it's the most beautiful stove out there, but it certainly isn't ugly either.

Though I'll be honest when it's -25* outside, the power is out and I'm nice and toasty in my house, I really couldn't care what the stove looks like. ;-)

So, over 75% have of the haters have based the ugliness opinion on photos. It definitely looks different in person.

As for the funky shape, I remember a post from BKVP in which he mentioned that a friendly competitor bought a stove and cut it up with a plasma cutter, then tried to build a stove that would perform the same, with some cosmetic changes. Perhaps the funky shape and firebox geometry is part of the performance? They would sell many more stoves if they were purtier, so why keep building them the way they are? Just my thoughts. I do hope the Sirocco is an indicator of bigger stoves to come.

I bought the stove because of how well it works. The screaming good price helped, too. And nobody has walked in my living room and said 'Ewwww'.

i got 2 blaze kings a king and a princess, they both uglie.

They're MUCH better looking in person. Still not the greatest looking stoves around of course... The chinook definitely looks pretty though. At least to me in my own home... Maybe that's because of what I paid for it... but I definitely like the looks of it.

When I bought mine I had considered a nice looking soapstone stove.

Then the shop owner said he heated his own home with a Blaze King. Loaded it with wood before leaving the house and again when he got home. No fussing with it, no constantly tending the stove every few hours.

I grew up with "smoke dragons" and it was usual to have to feed the stove every few hours all through the winter... not something I could do if I wanted to actually comfortably heat the house with wood. I don't consider getting home or waking up to a 45* house comfortable.

I'm glad I don't have to mess around with the stove numerous times during the day. I'm glad I can pretty much just throw standard length wood into it and let it do it's thing. I'm glad it holds several weeks worth of ash.

If you want to see "ugly" I'd have to get pics of the stove my folks used for nearly 30 years to heat their place. It was homebuilt out of an old 275gal heating oil tank.

I looked at the king (ultra) and princess in person Friday at a local dealer. They don't look as bad in person, considering their performance and reputation.
