The auger isn't turning. I can hear the motor on but the auger isn't moving. I scooped out all the pellets to get a good look at it. Not sure what's wrong with it. Anyone else ever have this problem? Not sure how to access it and hopefully I can try to turn it by hand. Not sure if there are fines that have clogged it up or not.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Fred

There is usually a set screw or some type of mechanical fastener connecting the auger to the auger motor.

I'd look there first.

X2... If its spinning and the auger itself is not? Then the set screw is loose.

Some systems you different ways of connecting the 2 together. My Fahrenheit uses a small love-joy system. But there is something loose.....

Thanks. I'll have to try to get in there. Hopefully I can see it from the side panel b/c there's only a foot behind it and I don't think my fat @*$ will fit back there.

Mine has a Love-joy lock on it. Its not a fail proof system. But it is very strong. Lovejoy2.jpg

Yowzers thats a BIG Pic........ I may like posting pics even more now... ;)

How bout sum better pics? :p
The space allowed to take that pic..... Will not allow it.

The 8MP camera on this phone is a joke.

As Freddels said. Not much room in there and the access panels are not very big...

Yep that one went soaring over ur head. I thot u knew i was a perv. :p

Hi guys!

This is my first post and I hope I'm in the right place...

I bought SCF 050 about 7-8 weeks ago and started working on installation and duct work. I was able to complete this project last Saturday. It's been running just fine for 3 days up until last night. I noticed a temperature dropping in the house to the point where it was not acceptable so I took a look at the furnace and notice the fire was out. At first I though an air dumper may need re-adjustments due to radical temperature drop outside but when re-lid the furnace, the fire was burning just fine (getting enough air from outside), but it wasn't getting any additional fuel from the hopper. I kept pressing an auger button but all I could hear was some sort of a click (just like a starter in the car). I could not hear any movement/rotation of an auger. I took a look at the operating manual and they said I may need to replace a fuse. I detached rear/back cover to see exactly how that fuse looks like and found some sort of a spill (pic attached). Can you guys advise?

First off Welcome!!!:)

It sounds like an auger motor feed issue.

Did you check the set screw that was mentioned in the above post #3 By Dexter Day? Your auger feed motor which is what those red wires go to (I believe) is right where you want to start looking. At the end of the shaft of said motor I believe is a set screw that would hold the auger (piece that spins and feeds the pellets) tight. If that set screw has loosened then the motor is just spinning and not turning the auger it's self.

You would probably get a better response if you started a whole new thread rather than post here as it doesn't really get the attention here as a new post from a new member would garner.

I am perplexed as to where you are getting that wet look from below the motor area there. Is your fresh air hook up possibly allowing rain water from outside to be drawn in?

Hopefully Dexter Day will chime in as he has the same pellet unit as you do. But there are others as well who can help better than I.

Just had the same thing happen to me tonight (without the wet spill) did you figure it out?

Anyone have a pic to how to check the set screw?

Try starting a new thread with the stove manufacturer/model and problem in the title. You can reference the old thread in the message due to pics but will get more attention if it is a new posting...

Smoke show and Dexter Day appear to have left the forum ... lost lots of knowledge with them:( Hopefully someone will chime in...

@Rubicon 327, sorry, missed your update and thanks for suggestions!

- Set screw was in place just fine. The above problem was with the motor missing oil/ grease so it simply burned out. What I did was I immediately reached out to the place where I got the furnace from and had them order a replacement part. Since they said the part was on back order or something like that I had to wait like 2-3 weeks so I took a look at the back of the manual and found a part number for an auger motor and ordered one online. It came in within like 2-3 days and I swapped them out, obviously after taking an auger out and making sure everything else there looks OK. The new motor has been running for few months just fine but recently it just started to make some weird noises when spinning and turning the auger so I replaced it with the original one I eventually gotten replaced from the manufacture.

What's funny is the fact I've been running on a OEM one for like 2 weeks and guess what.... I see another spill... what a bummer. I got to take more pictures and get back on the warranty claim again.

@MichPellet

As I just mentioned above, I immediately reached out with warranty replacement claim and ordered an extra one on my own -googled some store so I ended up with 1 broken one (they didnt want it back) and 2 good ones (1 actively working and 1 spare). My advise - take the motor our and physically (using your hand) try to turn the auger few times around to see and make sure it does not get stuck anywhere along the way.

Unfortunately, I do not have any chance to take a pic now but if you look at my pic above, set screw is just above that auger motor. It looks like a 'silver ring' holding or tightening motor with an auger. If you do not see a 'hole' (a screw) on the ring, move your hand around that thing until you find it.

I have had too much loose saw dust from crappy or dirty pellets and had to vacuum the auger from the top after empying out all the pellets. Right now i have a problem with auger locking up due to the brass bushings seizing to the auger shaft. Had to take it out once before and sand the bushing and auger shaft to clean them up and make them spin freely and applied high speed bearing grease. Well it lasted a year and now i am going to do it again.

Welcome to the forum karl! How old is the stove? Still on warranty? Looks like augers seem to be a weak point on these stoves

Thank you lake girl, the stove is scf-50 plain jane. I have had it for aboaut 8-9 years. I know the stove on a first name basis. The auger motor and gear box seem to be fine when i removed the auger. The problem is with the brass bushing which the auger runs in. mainly the top bushing above the chute. had problems with auger locking up in april 2014, cleaned up ends and greased in Nov 2014 and they just locked up today Jan 8, 2016. I am not going to grease them this time thinking that maybe the heat from pot is going up the feed chute and turning the grease into black resin and locking it up.

I wish i knew how to do that stuff, I was proud of myself for signing up, sometimes this technology baffles me. I will figure it out later, but thanks. Gotta get this thing running, getting cold in here.

There are folks on here that use dry moly to keep the auger turning well ... auto parts stores carry it.

Thank you, It seems their was a chunk of coal, lol, a lot of burnt up pellets burnt and formed into what looked like a chunk of charcoal just passed the pellet chute above the auger. I may still remove it again and try the dry moly.
