Wow, that's a bunch of wood right there. Looks like White from here...primo!

Pretty sure its red just because its turning dark pretty fast.

I take it you ran the 460, how did you like it?
zap

It's a strong saw....Would have used it over the 880, Got to be closer to 50 inch than 5 foot. ( that I was told) Non the less I am going to have 10 real cords of super hardwoods and drop in an epa stove for next winter.

Nice!! I'm jealous. Wish I had the ol' 051 together and could come out and break it in on that hog! I got a big black walnut to help a buddy out with this evening. I'll be sure to post pics tonight. Nice job, SJ!!

Nice. Looks like a pretty good section of straight trunk, and fairly solid. The big ones I've cut were out in the middle of farm fields, and only had about 10-12' before hitting a giant crotch, and then all gnarly from there.

You and me both. I will stick to the saw for the rest of those big rounds and thats not much easier.....(But I do have anti-vibe gloves);)

There's alot of btus there. You'll find the EPA stove much easier on the wood stash over the furnace.

As shaggy as the bark is, I'd have to say it is white oak. There's a week's worth of wood in some of those rounds. Looks like the saw and chain were dialed in pretty good....

Did you get all that on one load with that flat-bed S-10?;)

LOL, he was riding with the lights in the sky......Somethings on that tree scream white oak but it would put it at the biggest I have ever seen, and the center of those big rounds are turning red very fast...That was only a few min's after I finnished bucking it!

Going to still use both but the shoulder season will be the epa, winter the furnace and very cold days both.

Very few of the white oaks I've gotten into have pure white wood. I always worked under the impression that "white" referred to the lighter coloring of the bark.

My neighbor has a monster white oak that is hanging over his house. The trunk is about 50" and rotted half way through. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, but he keeps saying someday he'll have it taken down and I can have the wood. My back hurts already...and it is on a steep hill...so extra fun. EASILY 5 cord in that tree, probably closer to 7.

Well then darn sure could be white oak, theres lots of signs that it is. But it is turning red in color fast.

White Oak (and others in the White Oak group like Bur Oak,Swamp White Oak,Overcup Oak etc) dont have white heartwood -its tan or very light brown."White" does refer to the light ash-colored bark.Jay's looks a great deal like Bur Oak,with its darker reddish brown furrowed bark w/flat top plates instead of scaly.

I cut a 19-inch White a couple of weeks ago, and it looked pretty red. You can tell for sure when you start stacking splits; White has an unmistakeable sweet smell, as I'm sure you already know.
With the mild Winter we had you probably have a decent stash of dry wood left over that you can use in the EPA, or is the furnace wood too long?

Most wood I get around 16 inchs because the rounds are so flippen big you cut them as small as possiable.o_O

That is a monster! Looks that would be more than a year's worth for me. I'd love to have something like that close to me. Just not on top of, or actually in, my house close!

If there's any leaves left around you could get a positive ID on that beast.
