What are all you folks doing concerning "early- bird" bulk pellet purchases?? I'm not sure if there is any reason having to rush being prices average around 255- 285$ for better grades. Will prices stay the same thru fall or am I kidding myself?? Thoughts??

If you think the price is to high. MY advice is to buy a couple tons now and a couple tons later. This will put something into your season's supply. The main question I have is what will happen tot he price of fuel over the next few months. This is an election year so it can go low or high. I do not think it will remain the same. Fuel has a lot to do with pellets since the start of the chain saw to drop the tree to the local delivery to your house relays on fuel.

A good rule of thumb is to have one season supply of pellets always on hand. This will not put a hurting to you if the price skyrockets.

GREAT advice;)

I put 4 tons of middle of the line pellets in the barn a month ago and will now wait and see what the prices are going to do for the "high-end" pellets like Okanagans. I want 2 more tons but want them to be 100% softwood.

Hello

I already have 3.5 tons for all of next winter.

Should I buy now for the winter of 2013-2014 ? ?

If ya got the room to store and the price is right. Why not?
Still trying to recover from taxes. But next month pellets will again be my focus. That is unless the kid's wedding plans get in the way!

I just received my order of pellets for next year; 4 tons of Turmans from CJs in Manchester. Now have 5 ton total. Paid $257 a ton for a pellet that works well in my stove. I couldn't see the point in waiting, I don't think the price of those will go down. Out of 4 tons, only 1 damaged bag from the forklift. We gave the poor guy who delivered the pellets quite a workout with a stone driveway and plywood that was set up on uneven ground. I truly appreciated him putting them where we wanted them and 1 damaged bag is a small price to pay. Getting them into my basement through the bulkhead was a workout, but not too bad. All set for next year. Maybe we'll have a real winter this time.

I picked up a ton of Vermonts for $259...thought it was $240 but just found the receipt. going to hunt down some Blazers or Okie doug fir and most likely 3 tons of something really cheap. I like the heat for house stoves but the shop stove run the ashy stuff so my guys can get practice cleaning the shop stove. What do I care? Let the boys keep it ship shape;)

Borrow a kids slide and put it in the bulkhead. Cuts walking up and down the stairs, and saves about 2/3 of the time.

I'll be on the lookout at tag sales this summer for a slide. That was the only bad part, up and down the stairs. My middle-aged knees didn't like it.

newf lover- check out this thread https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads...ellets-into-your-basement.86433/#post-1115054 on how to the pellets into the basement

I have 3 ton of PWI; 2 ton of MWP Softies; 1 ton of MWP mixed and half ton of MWP mix left over in the basement for next season. Is it bad of me that I wish winter was here so I could see how the MWP softies will burn???

Thanks for the link, I like the slide idea best, although I would chop off most of the stairs of the slide so it's not too steep. Don't want the bags going down the slide at warp speed....

Got mine today. Two tons of Okanagan's and two tons of Maine Wood Pellets softwoods. $289 and $269 /ton respectively. Being delivered for $30. Couldn't see going out and buying a Ford F350 for 600/mo for 5 years.

Just put in an order today for 6/9 delivery from SIB. " 2 ton of the MWP softwood are $239 per ton delivered, 2 ton of the MWP hardwood are $215 per ton delivered. If you took delivery before June 15th and paid cash or check on delivery we would also take off $5 per ton".

That is just the order I want to put in! Good for you.

I would order soon there is a limited supply of the MWP Softies

My order for the softies is in with an anticipated delivery of Tuesday next week. I'll get the rest of the reg MWP later.. I've been wanting to try these. Usually trying doesn't mean starting with two tons. but considering they are MWP and all the other positive comments, it seems this was the best way not to toally loose out on what is a limited production.

Did the same thing here. Have not burned the softies but as you given everything said about them and they are MWP's ordered two tons.

I am looking to buy 2 tons of the better pellets for the colder months now (early bird) as I think prices or delivery fees will only go up since more people seem to have these stoves and people procrastinate until the fall which creates more demand. Plus it will break up the cash outlay.

But I had good luck last year with getting Green Teams for the shoulder seasons from Lowes @ $199/ton - they went up to $209/$219 after August - and the delivery fee is a flat $65 fee no matter how many tons you order. And that includes the driver bringing the pallets around the back of the house with the forklift and setting them down right outside my bulk head doors.

Don't forget that HD and Lowes give 10% military discounts (veterans included), which brings the price/ton down to $179.10/ton. So if you aren't a vet but know someone who is, bring them along with their ID.

Oil and gas prices are falling again. But electric is climbing. Supplies look pretty good for pellets. Pretty sure (as usual) we will see pellet houses raise prices once winter hits. Box stores should have their price wars come late fal early winter.

If you get them from the pellet house, Its a good bet the price now is gonna be the best deal until next spring. Not saying it doesn't happen(price decrease), But for the most part you can bank on them raising as the season goes.
