Thought I was all done splitting and stacking when the unthinkable happened. My neighbor's 30 something year old son came over and said that they wanted to work on their wooden fence. Well , guess were 5 face cords of my wood was stacked? Along the fence. Come to find out from the father that this is all his son's idea to make the place look better. THE FENCE IS OVER 35YRS OLD!!! Well, I moved it but told the father once the wood is moved back....it will never be moved again. If they want to beautify there fence.....they can work on it from their side of the yard. Oh as a thank
you to the son, who works 3rd shift(home at 5am) for the rest of the summer...splitting wood will begin at 8am. Work on the fence...joke!

So much for "good fences make good neighbors";lol

Might I also suggest a "high performance" muffler mod to your splitter, like removing it for better exhaust flow @ start up. I'm really glad I don't live in town. A C

If your wood is stacked on YOUR property, I would have told him to GET BENT. If he could do the fence from his yard, fine. If not, too bad for him. Just my two cents....

I like your avatar.........I'd recognize my woodstack anywhere.

It's moved now. I have found after a few bumps through the years it is always better to be the peace keeper and the one to be quick on the draw to forgive if necessary and move on. Heck you're going to benefit if he is working on both sides of the fence and not just his side.

Feuds with neighbors aren't good.
I'd make do the best I could & not stir the pot. ;)

Great advice from the last two posts IMHO.

Ive lived next to neighbors I couldn't stand before... Not fun. I go a lot further now to keep the peace... It's worth it.

Moving it was no big deal, it was just the point that both of them saw me for the last 2 months fill in the area along the fence. They worked on that fence last year and I thought they were done. Besides, our town has a 3ft variance code, meaning everything must be 3ft away from the neighbors property line. If they wanted to be picky, they could have called me on it. Well at least I have about 60+ rounds to split down from those 5 face cords. Mostly ash and oak. Hoping by the 4th of July everything will be back to normal.

Wait...I agree with you that it's best not to feud with the neighbors...but the 3 foot variance...doesn't that mean their fence has to be 3 feet inside their property line as well? Who's to say that my shed or my wood cannot be within 3 feet of my property line but their fence can be right on theirs?

I might've hemmed and hawed a bit...gee it was a lot of work to get it all stacked up there...not touching your fence...any way you can do your work from your side? Etc...at least get a sympathy 6-pack or some help re-stacking. ;)

The way I look at it....the longer they take to make it look pretty....the longer my splitting will last. Spread out those 5 face cords in other area's (garage, side yard, back yard) and now I plan on filling the fence line in with 5 more face cords. All needs to be c/s/s. When that is done....I will be sitting on approx 30 face cords. I will be good throughat least 2014/2015. They actually did me a favor.

that's a very positive way to look at it, and you're a better man than I. My response would have been, "No problem, he wants to work on the fence, he's perfectly welcome to move the wood that's on my property. I'd like it stacked here, here and here."

That's pretty much what I'd tell him, just a bit more diplomatic than I would lol. ;)

I probably wouldn't have moved it. That's a lot of wood to move.

Sometimes I think about how many times each individual piece gets handled and to have to move it one more time for someone else would make me a little ugly.

No matter how you look at it, the neighbor is not being very neighborly at all. Sad to hear this sort of thing.

When its all said and done...I will have 5 more face cords c/s/s in the area I just moved. I wanted to hit 30 and this was just the incentive I needed. Picked up some more huge rounds of black locust yesterday. I have 13 of those and each one will yield 12-16 splits when I get through hammering away on them. Some time later this week there are about 12-18 logs of ash about 4-5' in length and about 12" in diameter for me to grab. Lots left to do. I do plan on telling them once the wood is back.....I don't ever plan to move it again. When the father gets back from his vacation.....EVERY DAY I WILL ASK HIM HOW THE FENCE IS COMING ALONG. He will get sick of that real quick.
A.K.A.....NordicSplitter
