I"m not looking for a huge decrease but $1/bag more than last year seems a bit much. I admit i have not and do not pay attention all year to pellet prices going up or down. I only look when it's time to buy and sometimes (usually) it's sticker shock to some degree.

I might get an electric heater my new neighbor was talking about that costs $1/day to run. At 1 bag of pellets per day, they're going to cost me close to $5/day.

A dollar a day to run? Lets see if you were getting your electric for ten cents a kilowatt hour(more like 15) you would get 10 kilowatt hours for a buck. One watt equals 3.4 btus times ten thousand would give you 34,000 btus. Your places must be well insulated.

My neighbor said he used the heaters for $1/day. I didn't. He built his house, I'm sure it's well insulated. I have a craptastic 80's condo w/ leaky windows and minimal insulation. But my place is much smaller than his.

I paid $197 a ton last August at Lowes:confused:

I got an email from Robbie @ GT the other day saying they are shipping GTs to the New Haven area for July 12 delivery. Now to wait for the price to drop. I may stop by the Lowes and get a price just for a laugh...

Same here... with an additional discount it was a very cheap price per ton. made it an easy pick for the pellet to go with.
I still have 1 ton left of the 4 I bought, since last winter was so warm. I would guess that many others are in the same boat - and as a result are holding off on their next purchase / picking up fewer tons this year.

One way for Lowes to entice people to find room. to store more pellets would be to drop the price for a sale. I would think they will, but I doubt anyone at the actual stores will have an idea what corporate is planning on doing.
They most likely have as much of an idea as we do.

So did I up here in Maine, but that was for Greene Team pellets. Then they introduced Greene Team Platinum in late fall, early winter and Lowes jumped the price to $275/ton because GT told them they were a super premium pellet. I don't expect them to drop at all because HD raised their prices shortly afterward.

Here in the Scranton, PA Lowe's they have a load of "Green Supremes". I burned 1 ton of them last year, but was not overly thrilled with them, compared to the Presto Logs I bought at the same Lowe's last fall.
I have 1 ton of the Green Supremes and 1 ton of the Presto's in my stash right now. I may pick up 1 or 2 tons of the Green Supremes, just because I can get them for $197/ton with 10% coupon. So at that price, so what if they aren't exactly "great".

In case you didn't know, they are just re-bagged NEWP......not a great pellet at all in the past 3-4 years.

For me, they'd have to be even cheaper than that for me to burn them.

How does one obtain this 10% off lowes coupon that is repeatedly mentioned?

$217 / ton for green supremes at the lowes in epping nh; $65 for delivery within 20 miles regardless of quantity

best price around for an average pellet; tsc down the road is selling MWP for $217.50 / ton and the aubuchon is selling infernos for $229 / ton prebuy price

going with 5 ton of green supreme to hopefully get through the next two winters - the accentra doesnt really care what we feed it

Thats easy....just head to your local post office and request a movers packet . Inside you will find a Lowes 10% off coupon along with some other junk. Just check the expiration date on it before you walk through the door with it lol. Yes.....its happened!

217 a ton already huh.....thats about what price they where this time last year. Didn't someone just say not too long ago 240 would be the rock bottom lol.....funny how things work out. Its already come down from 240 from just a month ago. I'd give it another month, see if they can drive it down to 197 again. I bought last year in early september at 167.45 a ton. Thats with the 10% coupon and getting another 5% for saying HD thats .5 mile down the road got em for the same price....make me happy.

The green supremes/re-bagged NEWP burned just fine in my stove as well. I wouldn't ever pay more than 200 dollars a ton for them but at 167.45 a ton you have to be retarded not to buy them. Unless of course your stove needs "fancy" pellets to work lol.

If you have a Tractor Supply nearby, give them a call. They are $214.50 (w/ flyer mentioned in another thread) near me for Lignetics, and MWP.

The local tractor supply has mwp bagged generically for $214.50. The wife emailed mwp, they replied that the pellets are this years, not rebagged and the same pellets as the bag with the log cabin.

We are new to this, last year was the first year with the stove. Was leaning towards the green supremes because I tested them in the stove last year and they gave sufficient heat with no problems. The green supremes are also ten percent cheaper with the coupon I picked up this morning thanks to the post earlier in this thread. Have never burnt MWP but read elsewhere that they had a bad batch one year and the smell was off.

Are MWP's considered to be a significantly better pellet than green supreme? The stove is a free standing accentra in a well insulated house, 2000 sq ft. We burned 100 bags of maines choice last year plus 15 misc bags to try different brands. Only trouble we had was with penningtons but in retropsective I should have increased the feed rate.

The only way to find out

The only way to really know is to burn them yourself. I found the MWP to be pretty much the same as Green Supremes aka mew england wood pellets. Others liked the more others less. Everything being equal I would go with MWP but if the GS are cheaper I would go with them

After speaking with Jay T., I agree with him that if both the GT's and the MWP are the same price, the GT's are the no-brainer pick (more heat/less ash).

If the MWP were significantly cheaper, then people like me who have a stove that will deal with higher levels of ash and poorer quality pellets would get them and save some $$.
