In The Woods
35 years ago I was in Duluth Minnesota (playing hockey) we lost in the finals of the National Championship game in Hibbing, lets just say we had a party until we left the next morning(we got booted from the Hotel) in the rush to get packed I left my class ring in the room.

About three weeks ago my wife had a call from a very nice lady in Canton NY (about 14 miles NW of our house) her husband passed away about 11 years ago so she is finally selling the house, so she was going through some small boxes when she found one that had my class ring in it with some other things.

So Betty cleaned it up so she could see the intials on the inside of the ring, called our high school who gave her my name, we went over and talked for 1:45.

The ring fits better today then it did back in high school, her husband was the A.D. of the college.

What a great story zap.
You remind me of a Detroit area TV personality from many years ago, but for the life of me, I can't remember his name.
Pretty sure it wasn't zap.;lol

Outstanding zap! Excellent story behind that ring! Really makes it special.

Ya know I am feeling a little guilty here. Many years ago I found a class ring with my metal detector at a local beach. After reading this, I'm thinking it may be time to look for the owner. I pretty much just put it away and really have no interest in keeping it.

Maybe its time to do some research on it and possibly make someones day.

I'm glad you got it back Zap

fishingpol, that is what Betty could never figure out, why her husband never followed up after he had the class ring. She and her husband use to heat with wood so I had to bring up Hearth.com.

For me it was just another ring tossed into the bucket of found items. I found it before the Internet was around and really did not have time to research it. Now I think an email to the college will make it easy to locate the owner. I could not sell it for scrap as someone put a few bucks into it. Weeks turn into months.months turn into years and it becomes forgotten. I guess that is the best way for me to explain it.

Keep us updated. I always hear about this or read about people getting something back they lost but never thought it would happen to me. It brought back a lot of memories, I told Betty some stories my wife never heard,.

Betty had her daughter and grandchildren over so they had a few laughs, this is the first picture my wife took, Betty told me over the phone before we went over that she was going to slide the ring over my finger like we were getting married.

Looks like she is proposing to you! Funny caption in the lower right of the second picture.

How cool is that...getting something back like that after all these years. It still fits? You must not have changed much.
I dont look anything like I did in High School. When I graduated I was 5' 11" and weighed about 170...I am now a little
over 6' 1" and 320...my ring doesnt fit for some reason...==c

Maybe 175 in high school, I'm at 218 today working my way down to 210. When I was fitted for my class ring they made it big so it could get over my knuckle so it fits better today then back in high school.

Zap, that is a great story. Thanks for posting. Gives me hope that some day I might find my old class ring.
