What's the actuall fire box dimentions for your Isle Royal? Maybe it's not as big as you think and you could get away with something less than a true 4 cu ft? I know the Equinox is off by almost a full cu ft and the NC30 isn't even 3 cu ft. I know Blaze King is very close to what they claim and it would also be a little more efficient so maybe check out the new cast iron BK and compare?

I hope BK's new stove isn't just an iron clad add on of their steel models. It would be too boxy looking, require a large hearth and look out of place in most homes.

Good questions Todd and I really don't know the answers. I have been suspect of the overall size of the area that CAN ACTUALLY BE LOADED on many stoves. The Isle Royal is not exempt from that. The internal area of the NC30 appears to be larger than my stove (3.5 for NC30 - 3.0 for Isle Royale) and if you say the 30 doesn't measure to be 3.0 that would suggest that the IR is less than that.

More fuel. I find that the IR has no problems with heating my home so no need for more raw heat. My major problem is that I don't have the ability to reload the stove when it would make sense to do so (say after a 7 or 8 hr med. burn). By the time I get home I will still have plenty of active coals, but the stove is not producing enough heat to adequately heat the entire home.

If I could maintain a 400 (or maybe even a 350F) stove for 12 or 14 hours it would perform much better than coming home to a 200F stove and then cranking it up to 650f for two hours to let it settle back to 550 or 600 for the long haul.

The BK medium stoves are confusing. They are both about 2.75 CF, the chinook has 30 hour burn time and 76% efficiency. The princess has 20 hour burntime and 86% efficiency. Same wood load. It appears as though the chinook firebox is allowed to be run at a much much lower output level but overall is less efficient. Let's hope the new stoves use the new CBT 2.75 CF firebox like the chinook.

Nothing on the BK site about any new stoves, nothing cast iron yet.

Could be. I am in no hurry, the IR has been a fantastic stove and heats like a champ...but as with most things, I am always looking for something "better" or "easier". I have never had a cat stove and am seeing more arguments that lead me to believe that in my situation - a cat just might be the cat's meow. BUT, I am not yet convinced that a 2.75 cuft firebox holds enough btu's (no matter how they are dispersed) to heat my home for 12-14 hrs in the dead of winter. My jury is still out.

I called BK about this on Monday, relaying the information posted here to the woman who answered the phone. She put me on hold to discuss with someone else, and then came back and stated BKVP was not correct in giving a fall 2012 release date. I was told the earliest possible release date of this stove is March 2013. They did not yet have any info to provide on size, appearance, required clearances, or performance specifications. I'm not sure who was providing the information, as the woman who was on the phone with me had to keep putting me on hold to relay my questions to another party.

I pushed her for more information, stating I'd be interested in the BK but would have to buy a different stove if they could not at least provide me some basic information by October, but she simply said they were too early in the design and development cycle to discuss any particulars.

Why wouldn't a company like VC go to BK and say "we're great at making good looking cast iron stoves. What can you do for us in terms of cat technology, t-stat, and air controls."

I mean, VC has taken a pounding the last 10+ years. Why not look for some joint venture that could quickly repair their reputation. Yes, the 2-in-1 stoves are a big improvement from the previous generation, but they are still a distant third in terms of cat efficiency.

It wouldn't surprise me if VC is casting the wrapper for the new BK. Their foundry does castings for several mfgs.. Perhaps if the new BK cast stove is a success they will consider a new cladding for the King. We'll see, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for one.

I was quietly thinking the same thing. VC is the biggest contract casting house in the American stove industry, and I assume BK has no foundry of their own. It seems likely they'd have VC casting their new stove for them.

If I had known about this, I would have at least looked into it before I bought my Enerzone. I wanted their largest model- the 3.4, but the damn thing only came with a pedestal base.

Now, if I still have doubts on my enerzone after 3 years (and I now have a 3 year supply of wood to find out with...) an 80's Defiant WILL be replacing it, 8" stack and all.

What can I say, no TV, and crappy internet service, I have to look at the stove for 6 months out of the year (when I'm not shoveling/plowing/blowing snow or up to my knees in mud from the snowmelt). I at least want something I can tolerate looking at, not just a steel box.

I don't think the F5100 is that bad looking, I would prefer it with legs vs. the pedestal though. It actually looks kind of like the Sirocco from Blaze King. I wonder why BK doesn't just make a 4 cu. ft version of the Sirocco? I would actually have one of those in my house. Heck they could even just put a cast iron wrapping on it like the Alderlea or offer it in plain steel.
