I called a local CL add,"As big a load of logs as you're comfortable hauling-$20". I asked how much for a 25 ft gooseneck load?He says,"$20 as heavy you want it loaded." He will load it with a knuckle boom.
It is hardwood drops from logging, mostly red and white oak, 2-8 ft long. I can haul about 15,000 lbs (~3 cords?).
The only problem is, it's about a 70 mile round trip for me and I'm having a white oak die off, so lots of free wood at home that needs c/s/s. Mmmm...I could buy a load, process it and sell it in town for ~$500.

Its one of those common problems. Seems like a good deal but requires time, money and effort...is it worth all three to ya in the long run?
The only advice I can give is to stay as close to home with any type scrounge as you can...that way if things go pear shaped then you havent
shot alot of time or money in the effort.

Ditto. I have so much wood coming in to my property so fast right now that I'm going to have to start eating it, if I don't find a way to process it faster.

I know excatly how you feel, built right splitter with 8 or 10 way wedge is looking really nice, I have enough wood un processed right now that the oil savings would be over the 8000 dollar price tag of the splitter

i would make a quick trip up there and get it. Thats not that far unless its moutain winding roads. Hell work for me is a 50 mile round trip. doctors appointment in the big town is 100 mile round trip!

Yeah, I've got a 25 ft gooseneck. It's not just one load, he said he had 8 job sites to clean up ("giant piles"). As far as the drive goes, I'm use to driving 100 miles round trip to work but I need to allow for my fuel/time while considering this deal. I may go get a load just to see what he's got.

Hey Clemson where in greenwood do you live? I lived in Abbeville and Due West for a lil over two years. Loved it down there, had a lot of fun being away from busy life. Had to move back home after havin babies though.

Have to admit that the price seems great. It also is oak.

I'd do what you say......go get a load just to see what it's all about. Sometime you just gotta forget about adding up every nickel you are going to spend. Heck you can go out for a nice meal and look what you spend. That's forgotten by the next day. With this it will be around keeping you tail warm for awhile.

Did you go to Erskine?

Anyway i live in Southern Greenwood county. I actually live a few miles closer to Abbeville than greenwood. Id tell you the town im just leary of posting it on line. Not saying you are gonna do this but you never know who reads this stuff and id hate to have somebody close by come shopping my stuff (they can see some stuff in sig line!).

No I totally understand, thats cool. My cousin lives in Abbeville and I moved down there to work for him for a few years. Wish I could have stayed but with my wife and I both being from up here (yes yankees) we moved back after having kids. Grandma was a strong pull. Loved every bit of being down there. Some of the most fun I had was chasing pigs through the woods. Due West was great being away from everything and having peace and quiet. Something that is harder to get up here.

Update,
Found a better deal. Local sawmill has drops- mostly oak, 14-18 inches, 2x4-8x8 size. All you want, loaded and FREE.

wow dimentional lumber! you can really pact a stove with that stuff!
