Something I don't understand about Stihl vs Husq....

I have two Stihls in the shed and two Ford trucks in the driveway. When I bought my first Stihl in 1996, I didn't even know there was another comparable brand. I have a friend who has Huskys and he likes them. When I run one of his saws, they feel weird in my hands. I don't have any friends with Chevy Trucks
I'm a die-hard Stihl fan. I have TONS of them. That being said, I love my Husqvarna 372XP. Wicked little saw, a lotta bang for the buck. I love Fords, but drive a GMC truck. My favorite vehicle is my 1949 Willys Overland 4x4 wagon (which has a Ford 302 in it). Wife drives a 2009 Grand Caravan and we love it (lots of kids). Moral of the story? I think all manufacturers have (+)'s and (-)'s. No matter which brand brags to be the best. Did I mention I love my Stihl saws and my Ford-powered Jeep??

I like Stihl saws for the simple fact that you can't buy them in the box stores. Stihl supports it's dealers pretty well, & I think keeps some mom & pop outfits in business. I'm not against Husky pro saws by any means, each company makes some very high quality equip. Besides that, nobody else has the pretty creamsickle/white/off white/gray/whatever color those cases are on the Stihls.A C
not that i've looked that closely but i don't ever remember seeing a husky pro saw at the box stores. 460 rancher and below.

My pickup is American and my cars are European.
I've never seen a tinfoil and plastic Japanese car or truck that excites me. Practical, yes. Exceptional, no.
Excepting a few rare examples out of my price range, I haven't seen an American production car in the last 30 years that I'd choose over Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo...
I wouldn't even consider a pickup made by anyone other than Ford, Chevy, Dodge.
Oh... and I own both Stihl and Husqvarna, but I think the Stihl is way cooler.
Haven't seen anything bigger/better than the 460 at Lowes myself. But it's a thin line between chasing a very lucrative market (homeowners shopping at the big box retailers) and betraying the dealer network that has supported you since you started selling power equipment in this country.
Stihl was very vocal a few years back about not putting any of their products in a big box retailer where they felt it wouldn't receive the support (service) it deserved. Maybe they're right too because the person buying a smaller homeowner saw is much more likely to rely on someone else for service than someone who is looking to buy a big mid-range to pro grade saw.
My wife's aunt/uncle own a Toyota Tundra and while it certainly is a nice truck, I could never own one. Not for political reasons or national pride and whatnot.... But the damn doors. Closing the doors makes a sound that reminds me of punching a beer can. Just not what I'd expect from a vehicle in the $40-$50K range.

Yup.You wont find any of the XP models,even the small ones anywhere but an official licensed Husky dealer.Same with some of the 'mid-range' heavier duty landowner ones like the 359,365,570.

The only misstep I think Stihl has made in there dealer network is the alliance with Deere. With my local Deere dealership Stihl sales are only handled by the parts department is it this way elsewhere? It's agitating waiting for equipment parts when their salesmen are doing nothing and I imagine it's the same fealing when your shopping for stihl products.
Anyway saws I'll take a pro model.

No here it is the sales guys. Not sure what would be better but they do pretty well, and you can count on them if there wrong.
Where I was hand-held powerequipment was the sales departments responsibility and we were both a Stihl and Deere dealership (before Deere threw in the towel on hand-helds). Not uncommon for parts departments to handle small equipment like that in the bigger dealerships tho. Sounds like a failure on the part of the dealership management, not so much on Stihl or Deere.

You may have me on that one. I've driven many Corvettes over the years, and the gen.5 is a sweet car. Almost makes up for the atrocity of the gen.4!

I have always used Husky , never tried stihl, Never saw a need too.

I find that stihl is way overpriced new around here and way overpriced used as well. Husky is in a very good price range new and used around us. Echo is a darn good saw and also in a very good price range. From my experience Echo customer service is great and Poulan is well awful unless you call husky ( who owns them ). I have not had to deal with stihl customer service however I have used a few and don't really get the hype. I have used a Dolmar and WOWOWOW what a saw it is my buddies and I borrow it on occasion if I had the money I would buy a Dolmar in a heart beat.

Where is "around here" Pete? DSRP is pretty similar from coast to coast for Stihl IME.

Way over priced? Rilly? I looked at 2 saws last summer: MS440 and 372XP. The price difference was about $50 OTD - which isn't much on a $900 saw
And usually when you go apples to apples, the Husky is the more expensive saw. MS362 vs 562XP anyone? I agree the $50 ain't a deal breaker on a piece of equipment that's going to last 20+ years.

Husky and stihl are very close in price new.
Used is another story. You can pick up equal pro grade huskys for much cheaper than a similar stihl. Which is fine with me

Every shop I have been in around me is 200 to 300 more than any other brand for an equivalent power and size saw. This is not a smack in the face to stihl owners it has just been my observation and reason for not buying one.
