Wife ok'd it IF I bought her a new mattress. I researched quite a few splitters, but for the power, cycle speed, and price, I went with the HUSKEE 22 TON sold at tractor supply. They were going to be back on sale next wednesday for 999, and I inquired about it, and got it for that price. I used it to split about 1 cord of wood today. What a difference compared to my maul, who saw about 5 cords of wood over the past year. I like the vertical feature for the big bears, and enjoyed standing up horizontal for the smaller stuff.... And the wife stacked. Be well

Zap- the matress will be here monday, until then we will try to break the one we have, (no pics, it never happened, huh... that will have to be suffice....)
Bogy- believe it our not, I thought of BW savage when I was splitting, but I don't have a crate yet. He already sent me death threats for posting the picture in horizontal

Skip the milk crate well seasoned, only gets you a sore butt and funny looks from neighbors! Put BW, zap, and bogydave on the ignore list they will try some mind games on the reasoning of pointing the splitter to the sky. Lol. Also, look at the hose ( high pressure side) and over time it can rub on splitter so I took a small piece of garden hose and split it and used zip ties to protect hose. I also fabricated a table which works real good. Congrats, your gonna get many hours of use from it.

Thats a fine machine that will handle anything you throw at it. I have a 21 Ton MTD and have split Big, Gnarly, Twisted Crotches and it just goes through it. Big splitters (30 ton and bigger) are very nice, but anything in the 15-25 range does very well and will normally have a faster cycle time..

I was able to split and stack 2 cords in 4 hours, so not bad. It makes life easier, no sore back and shoulders to start a new workweek. Now for football!
Do you find that the axle/tires are in the way of where you'd like to stand?
I used one about a month ago and my shins got pretty sore after running it for a few days and constantly bumping against it. The fairly sharp fenders over the tires certainly was the reason for a few 4 letter words.
I've "tested out" several others at the stores and they all seem to be designed similar, seems to be because of the vertical/horizontal function perhaps?

I haven't had an issue yet with the location if the axle/tires. If anything, not that I have had an issue would maybe a protective cage on top of the engine. It would take 1 slip of a round on top of it to smash the plastic up. I like that I can wheel it on over when the pile grows. I split some pretty gnarly stuff, no issue with power. love that I can go vertical on the super big stuff.

I agree backwoods, I'm not too keen on the jack construction to begin with, let alone the finger pinching... 500 lbs worth.

By a wheel, I am assuming you are saying like they use on a boat trailer that swings down. That might be interesting, although I guess I will wait until I hurt myself before I do that. By the way I bought a used version of the 28 ton version. They do come in handy. Horizontal is a bit of pain because the splits want to fall on your feet without a table. The one they sell looks overpriced.
By the way I have a new vote for using a 5 gallon bucket (like a drywall bucket) instead of a milk crate. Seems a better heigth.

I agree with Dennis, watch the fingers on the jack. Just a tip, extend the ram before you need to move the splitter by hand. Makes it balance much better.

Yes, that is the wheel I was referring to.
As for the bucket, I've found that too high. By staying low it is super easy to get leverage for moving the log around.
I don't know how you can split vertical only!
I did it on maybe a dozen "too heavy to lift" logs and my back was screaming. With horizontal splitting I can normally run the splitter for a couple hours before the pain really hits me.

I have mine for almost a year.....can't beat it for the $$$. I had one wheel that wasn't tightened, and the other had a bearing with no taper, and was riding up on the axle....called Speeco, and they sent me an entire wheel assembly ready to go on the splitter (shop had a 30 day wait for repairs)...fixed. Shortly after, the hoses leaked, and the throttle lever (red) fell apart....got it fixed under warranty (1 week wait now), and the throttle lever fell apart within minutes....not a big deal, not gonna bother fixing it again, just bypass it. One thing I did notice that I don't like (minor), is that the rail that the ram slides on is curled inward, and some splits get wedged on both sides of it, and it will bog down, if not stop it dead in it's tracks......and a lot of junk gathers at the end.....but for the $$$, it's great.

Check the engine mount bolts and the pump mount bolts. They work themselves lose. A little medium strength loctite fixes that. Otherwise, I am on my third season with no troubles. I run mine verticle. I just use a round for a seat, but most of the time I just sit on the ground and roll the rounds like a barrel into position.
I'm gonna have to try the wheel on the tongue thing. But for me, I just use the ATV and pull it to where I am splitting, then pull it back. I never unhook it unless storing away when the season is over. It takes up a pretty small footprint in the garage when you store it with the ram in the verticle postion and remove the tongue. I replaced the bolts that hold the tongue with pins and clips, so it comes off without tools. I jsut put an old jack stand under the engine mount to keep things more stable when the tongue is removed. Takes up about the same space as my kids bicycle.
It is a simple, do what it is intended to do machine. The quality is pretty much there, especially when you consider the price. KD

Same exact splitter i just got.
I love it so far.
I hate to say it but i only paid $899 here in MI. at Tractor Supply. They had just got in 3 new ones and bumped up the price to $999 but i asked for the lower price and they had no issue at all with it. Even filled it with gas before i left!
