Since I have both I decided to do a test and post the results.

The test: Using an Osburn 2000 insert stove top, a Condar Medallion magnetic gauge, and a Cen Tech laser thermometer.

As you can see in the pics the magnetic read alittle higher than my laser which I found odd but ok.

Same here. Not enough difference to worry about. It is mostly relative anyway. Relative to what your stove is doing.

There was a post earlier this week where a guy fried his Osburn 2400 insert baffle. He said he never burned over 650 on his stove top with his magnetic temp gauge. The question was how accurate is a magnetic temp gauge, so I checked my gear and posted the results to help people. Im all about helping others :)

Looks your magnetic stove top thermometer is pretty accurate.

Yeah, I'd say you are fine. HOWEVER, some of these magnetic thermometers I do question the accuracy of. I bought a cheaper one (Rutland) several years ago, the stove hasn't been hot since early May and it's still reading over 100 degrees right now on the upright pipe coming out of the stove!
