So Cent ALASKA
Been cutting. Got 2 loads.
This AM the moose (Cow with twins) were eating the tops of the down birch trees.
Watched me for a long time then ran off when the tree fell.
Few nice size ones. (birch & moose)

Great pics Dave. I remember years ago I was in Canada ( near wawa) with my dad fishing and he walked up close to a bull and snapped his picture, moose didn't mind at all? Did you get another set of moose antlers yet for the barn? It really needs it !!!! ;)

Thats some beauty country side up there Boggy....Alaska is on my list of places to see....Id like to one day try my hand at some of those massive king salmon. Awesome looking rounds too BTW!

such a nice sight...and moose look good too

Dave, you need to get a camera crew up there to follow you around for a while. They can film you cutting, hunting, and cooking. Call it a documentary.
Nice... When we moved out of Philly into the PA mountains, I thought that was the wilderness!

Nice load of firewood Bogydave, how cold is getting in your area?

zap

Back for another load today.
45° at 9AM. Mostly cloudy

Always see moose after hunting season. The leaves gone helps allot though.

King salmon are good for you ;)

Found a 1/2 rack for the wood shed a few weeks ago. Does that count? :)

Dave ,nice job but the sight of that moose makes my mouth water,my ex-boss just came back from Newfoundland with a 1400 pound bull, and a huge bag of moose meat for me lovely tasty stuff for sure.Got a small load of white birch I'll burn in my first fire if it gets cold enough.

when i hear "half rack" it makes me think of ribs.....I'm hungry.
wish i had pet moose, all i have is deer that eat from the bird feeder.

Yep, only if you can find the other half ! Come on, how hard could that be? Lol....:D

Real nice Dave >>

Are they used to humans? Do they spook easily?

Wishlist, I suspect there are a whole lot of folks never been to Wawa. Therefore, they don't realize that moose you saw was a statue! ;lol

Dennis, that was no statue! LOL.... A moose sure makes our whitetails look real small. You have any luck yet?

Nice haul

- - - ::::--------> (Decent moose at 15 yards)

Definitely on my bucket list - Maybe cover my ghillie suit with birch twigs? I've heard they can be a little "stompy" at close range, though.

Nice pics, good luck next year!

Only seeing does and fawns so far. How about you?

How well do you like the ghillie suit? How do you clean it? Any problem when aiming? That is, from a tree stand or from the ground?

love the ghillie! Got a jacket that is a little long from "allpredatorcalls". Cut most of the material off the left arm. Gently hand wash it once a month or so in baking soda and water only. leave soda on it as scent control. I carry it in / out in a stuff sack that it came with so it wont get sweaty or snag on everything. Don't know how the snipers do it - they are a pain to travel through the woods in.

Hunt from the ground with a 60" longbow. Usually in a blowdown or thicket, sitting on a log and cushion, back against someting.... Sometimes i fall asleep :) I have a short 27" inch draw to my chin, left arm bent a lot, and cant the bow to the side.Look down the arrow and "gapshoot" out to 20 yards max. Saturday is the opener, first adult deer will be arrowed, buck or not. Skunked last year<> got sick for gun season and hacked everyday. No venison makes me surly!

I have gotten back into bow hunting in a big way. We have a doe season here before buck in Allegheny county since they have so many. I do not normally shoot does but a game warden said I really should. I can get them anytime I want. Wouldn't you know I saw several bucks in doe season and have not seen one since buck started this weekend. They have to be at least 8 points here to be legal, which makes it interesting. I used to hunt with a recurve, now I use either a Mathews Switchback or my crossbow. I admire osagebow using a long bow, I always enjoyed instinctive shooting. But the new technology is tough to beat.

They're not real spooky, not much is big enough to mess with them.
This one was apparently used to humans, atvs & chains saws.
I was getting nervous when I went to cut a tree with her about 30 yards away with twin calves.
When the tree fell, she finally took off.

One more load of rounds added to the pile out back today. Finished up in the rain. Will try to remember to take pics tomorrow.

sweet setup bogydave. a trailer is the way to go. saves on the truck suspension and can carry a whole lot more. probably close to a cord on a 3500# trailer?

Looks like a trailer full of fun splitting, and I would love to try a big bbq Moose steak :-O

Thanks.
Birch is 6,000 lbs +/- per cord wet.
I tried a cord load once, barely made it home, axle was bowed, tires looked almost flat & over 40 mph the trailer started fishtailing.
I get about 1/2 cord per trip stacked level with the sides & room for the ATV in the middle.
But yes, the trailer is a big help, I can get more wood each trip & roll the bigger rounds on & off the trailer.
I'll try to get some more pictures today.
