Lowes extended warranty

After much searching and figuring out things I gotta get a bigger splitter sooner rather than later. Lowes just dropped the price of the Troy Built 27 ton splitters to $1299 so I think I will find a 10% off coupon and go pick one up.

Now my question is how many of you bought the extended plan? If I do get it I would go for the 4 year plan for $269, I have read the T&C (http://www.lowes.com/pdf/All Other EPP.pdf) and do not see anything that pops out that they will not replace other than maintenance items like the filter and oil. Im going to ask if the 14 day service window would apply to splitters as well, I doubt it but worth asking.

Anyone gotten the EPP and used it?

IMO extended warantee's are a waste of money. However if you can't fix your own equipment and have plenty of jingle in your pockets it might make you feel better.
A homeowner splitter gets used very little. During the 1st 6 mos you should know if there is any warantee issue.

I don't plan on keeping it for 4 years but my thinking is with being able to transfer the EPP it will increase the value when it comes to time to sell it. Flawed logic?

I have 9 cords to split with this thing as soon as I bring it home.

Don't remember on what forum I read this, but a guy had purchased a 22 ton Huskee from TSC, and also purchased the extended service / warranty plan. He took it home, and in a relativly short period of time (1 day?), the machine had a some sort of equipment failure / break. He called TSC, and returned it to the store. They were ready to just swap it out for a new machine until they realized he purchased the extended plan.

At that point, he was advised that they could do nothing for him - he was REQUIRED to go through the Protection plan provider company, which lead to a rather nightmareish and time consuming process.

Might want to check that out with a Lowes manager as their usual return policy is quite liberal, but I'm not sure if the extended warranty would muck that up.

Thanks for that heads up. I am sure that is one way for them to push the buck, I am not sure who would service the machine in our area, that is one of the questions I was going to ask as well.

Just as a side note, mover packets at the Post Office no longer contain a 10% off coupon, they only contain a slip with a special # for you to go to lowes website to REGISTER to get the coupon by email. Guess they wised up on that.

I have never ever bought an extended protection plan or warranty of any kind for anything. Manufacturer's warranty is good enough for me. I have yet to find myself in a situation where I wish I'd had the extended coverage...be it from the manufacturer or a third party. They're just playing the odds (which are always in their favor) and generating additional revenue for themselves. Same thing with so-called Homebuyer Protection policies or whatever they name them...$$$ out of your pocket and into theirs. In all probability worthless to you. All the preceding being, of course, nothing more than my own personal opinion. Rick

I am not much for extended warranty's either, but I got one on my flat screen tv and glad I did, had a 4 year warranty and 3 years in it started going bad, got a new upgraded tv. Ever since then for big ticket purchases I like to at least think about getting the warranty, I fully understand it is a numbers game.

Since I am not going to have this splitter for that long, maybe a year or two, I know I will be selling it down the road, since the EPP is transferable I was hoping to get some advice on if they will net me more money when I sell it used, I have not seen a used splitter that the seller states he can transfer a warranty, that to me would make it more valuable.

That is up to the individual buyer. Me - personally - I wouldn't give you another dime for it over the value of the splitter.

Wouldn't mean much to me as a buyer, either. If that (resale) was my only reason for considering it, my inclination would be to just keep that $$$ in my pocket. Rick

Not much to go wrong. We've had ours for over 20 years with no problems.

I also would go for the lesser cost 20 or 22 ton. Smaller motor so uses less gas and still does the job nicely. The tonnage is over rated on these things and 20 ton will split a lot of wood while saving you dollars.

The only thing I ever bought an extended warranty for was my smart phone.......and yes, I used it just a couple of months ago when the phone chit to bed. But as far as mechanical equipment, I never buy it. Heck, I never buy new equipment, almost all of it has been either used or totally overhauled by me!

For a lot of things, whatever will go wrong as a result of poor design or sloppy assembly should show up within the manufacturer's warranty period--that is, if you don't abuse the machine. Get the splitter, forget the store/extended warranty, and use the snot out of it this season.

I did not purchase the extended warranty with my 27 ton from Lowes. It has been my experience with other warranties that whatever goes wrong they some how have a way of not covering it? Oh yeah, insurance is designed to work in their favor so I usually avoid them in general. On the other hand I have split 20+ cords since March and no issues. Good luck, she is a nice splitter at a great price it sounds like.

I would agree the Huskee 22 ton is a much better value and the Troy-Bilt is painfully slow but if mellow is serious about unloading in a year or two, that 27 ton sticker will sell the machine much faster/higher than the EPP.

I generally don't buy extended warrantees . . . my thinking is similar to others . . . if something that is covered is going to break it will happen sooner rather than later . . . and if folks really want to get out of replacing something very costly I suspect a lot of times they can find a way around it . . . guess I'm a betting man . . . and betting that most of the time things don't break . . . hence the reason many folks offer extended warrantees for sale.

Sorry for getting back late, been splitting all weekend.

I went ahead and picked up the splitter on Friday night, the on duty manager gave me a deal, he lowered it to $1199 if I got the 4 year warranty so I went ahead and got it, 0% for 48 months didn't hurt either. They use local businesses to fix the splitter, two of the nicer ones in town to be exact so that helped with the decision.

The reason I said I might not have it that long is we are looking to sell our house when the market turns around in this area, if that happens in 4 years then I do not know if the next house I will be burning wood at, so I would sell the splitter if that happens.
