A guy called me to see if I wanted an oak he felled, and I did. Simple job, trim branches and leave at the wood line, buck and load the 250. Guy lived 20 minutes away so got the job done in 2 1/2 hours with my lovely wife as a helper. Guy will fell another much bigger oak, and possibly a black locust, so I committed to taking that as well. This wood goes toward 2014/15 and 2015/16. Plenty if time to season properly. Be well

What kind of Oak is that? The leaves left on the limbs look sort of like Black Oak...
I would not leave wood that big behind, but that's just me. I would probably take anything bigger than 3". I like to have a few smaller ones spread throughout the stack...

I think it looks more like a Pin Oak, but either one is great firewood. Black Oak would probably have rougher bark at that size, and the leaves of black Oak aren't usually as deeply indented as those appear to be.

Idk ... sinuses dont look that deep in the leaves to me ? Looks like dark heartwood, but either way a great firewood.

I see the pile of oak rounds out back and I am aching to split them, but the rain is coming. I should really call bogy dave and request his " tarp blue prints" for splitting in the rain!

You can get an EZ-up shelter for under $100. Size and weight of a golf bag when folded. Even comes with waterproof "walls" if you have a mind to use them.

1 each 12 X 16 tarp (blue best color for mood lighting ), 1 each 8' - 2X4 split in half, 4 big tent stacks & 20' of parachute cord

Will put up the tarp & finish splitting today.

football with the presence of a warm wood stove and a lady took up the rest of the day. I think maybe a camo tarp, just incase a buck strolls by and doesn't notice the sound of the splitter.
