how do you get your stove to simmer

Its gotten down to 34 degrees here in pa and i have had a few nights of experimenting with the p61a and i have learned what everything does and a few ways to increase effeciency with it. The only thing i cant figure out if how do you guys run it low on nights in the 30s and 40s? My 1800 sf home was 79 degrees upstairs with the stove set on auto/stove temp blower 75%/ feed adjust 3.5/ 2 on the temp dial. I dont see any smoke at running it this low and im not loosing the fire. Is it ok to turn even lower? I thought i read on here that anything under 2 is not recommended. My current assumption is that this p61 at full bore could heat the entire county.

I run my blower on low 25% speed in stove temp mode. You may want to try running it in room temp mode so it cycles on off, high low what ever. Experiment see what works for your house.

You can run your stove as low as the dial goes without any problems. Just keep in mind in stove temp mode, the stove will always blow hot air. I second what Eric said.

Since your running a Harman read the sticky at the top. Feed rate only refers to max heat not min. There is a draft adjustment on the stove for low fire but if that is set correct standby is as low as you can go. But i believe you said #2 on the stove temp that would still be higher than standby. Turn it down to #1

Ill turn it down to 1 and see what happens. Ive tried the room temp but im not too impressed with it yet. I was getting wild swings in the flame height. My only thoughts behind that was that i have nearly 600 cfm being pulled from the room and being distributed to the second from that it may have been getting a draft somehow. The stove is in my home theater/office and i have it tucked in between my 4 subwoofers about a foot off the carpet floor and 5 feet to the right of the stove. I shut the stove off at 11am this morning and at 9pm the house is still at 76 and its 43 degrees outside. I dont know if the house will cool down enough tonight to start the stove or not but id sure would like to play with it again and find a better solution. There is a frost advisory so i may get my opportunity. I have a new heatpump that does a great job but i was told that the p61 was super flexable and want to check out it capabilites.

Do not worry about flame heights. Room temp mode and leave it alone. Mess with the surround sound or the language settings on the tv.

You will really need to wait until we get some decent cold weather before you can fully appreciate what the Room Temp mode can do for you. Have you read the info contained in the Harman sticky at the top of the page as sugessted?

Yes i have read the sticky. That is an awesome acticle and was extremly helpful since my owners manual was missing 2 pages. It cleared up all operation that the manual didnt. Its actually a shame that the factory manual is not better than what it is.

I ran the stove again late last night and turned it down to 1 and still running on stove temp. It did provide less heat and the house was 76 upstairs and it used nearly no pellets. I did not see any ill effects of running it this low and granted it will probably never be this low in normal operation. It is new to me and i am just learning how to use it before the true heating season gets here. Its a fresh install so i was also checking for proper operation. I feel i have a little more contol over these cool nights but as Eric suggested im going to try the room temp mode again. It seems that most guys run in this mode so it must be for a reason. Thank you for your help.

Try running it in room temp with the ignitor toggle switch in manual (after the stove is lit). In this mode, the stove won't go out but will do a low burn until it calls for heat and will then ramp up. But then again, if you read the sticky, you already know this.

I wouldn't worry much unless you wake up and your belly button has popped out cause everyone knows what that means and it is getting closer to Thanksgiving.
