Chainsaw...which one and why?

We're being gifted a chainsaw of our choice and I want to make sure we choose something great! It will need to last a long time.

:) thanks!

If i could only have 1 saw it would be a 361..best one saw plan out there IMO. If I could have two, it would be a 460 and a small limber....like a 192 or 200.

I should say we do have a 14" poulan wood shark. It seems to work fine on smaller limbs, etc. Not sure if owning this little guy would change someone's mind about another saw?

The dealer we most likely will end up at sells stihl and husqvarna, I think.

OK...so...not knocking the Poulan...but you are asking the equivalent of what is your dream car...and you just said you'd like to upgrade from a Nissan Versa. This is a hot topic around here...and you should prob give anticipated use and a budget...or you'll be shopping for a Bugatti Veyron. Just sayin'

There is no budget. We may have a restriction on buying from a specific dealer bc they sponser my sister in laws competition lumberjack team. How much is the saw originally recommended?

The saw we have was bought to cut down a small tree in residential Shreveport 6 years ago. We've used it once other than this week to cut some scrounged logs. I'm just noting that we have it. If it equals having nothing, that's fine.

Still interested in the one saw from various perspectives :)

Husqvarna 562XP 20" bar full chisel chain

I'd asked the dealer. He will know. Congrats on the FREE saw.

A one saw plan would be a Stihl MS 460/MS 441 or Husq 372 XP/562 XP. One of those. 2 of each brand listed.

If budget was a non issue.

Other thread today mentioned PPE. Chaps, hearing and eye protection are cheap insurance when using a more powerful saw.
Both brands mentioned are professional grade. Look, choose, then research your choice here, some models may stand out.

We will ask the dealer...I just haven't found many sales people I trust blindly without having some other knowledge to support a purchase.

I had to ask my husband what a veyron was...he reminded me of that guy who drove one into a lake in Texas for a couple mil insurance payout (per the Internet, if you can believe what you read). I asked if he would accompany this Bugatti saw gift with a real Bugatti for my garage and for some reason he didn't think we could afford it!?

Thank you for the saw input! I looked up the 372xp and it was approx 850 dollars. Thats not unreasonable, it doesn't seem

This saw would be a real possibility as I am certain the dealer sells husqvarna. Thistle, it doesnt look like you own this saw? What makes this one the one you'd get?

Power to weight ratio, durability, rpm's & all around capacity. If my Super 380 ever dies (62cc/4.5HP,13,500RPM & over 100 cords cut in 12 1/2 years) -the 562XP (or its successor) will be the one I choose.

We don't have chaps currently, so this is a purchase we'll have to look in to. I work in manufacturing so glasses and earplugs are core components of our safety gear

562 XP or MS 362, My preference would be an 18" bar on either saw unless you're cutting large wood regularly. Use the poulan to limb with. Please wear chaps when running any saw, they're far cheaper than the E R co pay, & way less painful. A C

BTW If someone were gifting me a saw, I'd go for an 090 contra.==c

should read: "cheap insurance when using any saw."

As to my picks? Something in the 60cc class. Stihl MS362 or Husky 562XP, either one wearing a 20" Bar.

562xp. I have one with the 18" and absolutely love it. Light, nimble and powerful. A great all-rounder

I'm really pining for a 6400

The 562XP, 20" bar.

460/461 But I dont know what you will be cutting? Whats your true skill set?
