We had a beautiful day today. Sunny, 57 degrees and finally, not too much wind. Nature seemed to really enjoy it too. Just look at what we found! This is something I've never seen nor heard of happening. Around our area apple blossoms open typically around May 7. Today is October 16. Something tells me this is not good.

I have seen this happen before. I though it would interfere with next's year crop, but it didn't seem to . You have to love those fall days t hat are a bit cool, but sunny.
Hunting season will start soon so it won't be safe to go out of the yard except on Sundays. I respect the right to hunt, and it keeps down the number of deer that would eat my garden. I just don't like being out there with bullets flying about.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

We have a couple of plants in the yard that have blooms on them and the leaves are starting to fall as well. It just starting to turn the leaves here.
Roses are blooming like mad...

It is good to know that someone else has seen this before and next year turned out okay. This is the first time we've seen it.

Why would you feel it won't be safe to go out of the yard? Have you considered all the hunters and if they are safe or not? I've heard this from a few others about not feeling safe even driving a car when hunting season arrives but statistics just do not prove this to be so.

Wife and I were just talking about this. One year we had a beautiful red rose in mid-November. That bush never produced another rose after that.

The answer is not simple. First I have "felt" stray bullets. Second, is there are the hunters that shoot anything that moves. Sad to see cattle with the word "cow" painted on its side. One shot a bob cat right on my property line. (out of season). While a few years ago, one woman was shot while hanging out her clothes. Every year someone is mistaken for a target.
The third thing, perhaps lame, but real to me. I am a VietNam Vet. I was a medic. I have had my fill of guns and shooting noices. Try as I might, I just can't bring myself to having anything to do with guns. I respect your right to own and use them. Just isn't for me.
I was lucky not to pass this phobia on to my sons. One is an avid hunter and enjoys the duck and deer he has in his freezer.

Random thoughts . . .

Hunters don't bother me . . . but I don't hunt myself . . . it's just not in me.

I will say this though . . . true "hunters" do not shoot anything that moves . . . true hunters actually don't mind getting out of the truck and getting a bit cold . . . true hunters will not shoot anything out of season and will identify their target and know the difference between a cow and a deer or a cow moose and a bull moose for that matter.

Karen Quinlan . . . I remember that pretty well . . . happened back in the 1980s . . . only remember it though since I had a friend at the time named Karen Quinlan . . . not the same one though.

I don't think the Vietnam and gun thing is lame . . . in fact you sound a lot like my own father who was a medic on a LCT in Vietnam . . . he also doesn't mind folks and guns . . . but after he came back he too wanted nothing to do with firearms himself . . . said that after seeing just what a bullet could do to a man he was all set with taking any life.

That said . . . a few years back my Uncle had a run in with some hunters who were hunting on his property without permission. To get their attention he propped a stick in their vehicle against the horn . . . they came out . . . and proceeded to beat him up so badly that they put him in the hospital overnight. After that the family land was posted . . . it's just been in the last few years that the family has opened up hunting to a few select hunters. As for the group of out of state hunters . . . I was told their camp in a nearby town mysteriously burned down a few weeks after the incident . . . but that could just be a rumor.

Beautiful pictures !

When I was growing up we had some apple trees and I saw a few bloom in the late fall a couple of times.those trees did not produce the next year but where fine after that. One did not produce at all and I think it was just to far from the others to pollinate properly.

Its really hard on plants around here...it can go from warm and sunny to freezing in a few hours...and then go right back to warm. Plants have no idea what time of year it is most of the time. Honey suckle is in bloom right now.... I guess if the roses dont bloom, I will be buying some more...:(

My wife had a beautiful rose once in the middle of November. Really cold outside to but the rose was pretty.

Its funny how plants will act differently. These two plants are the same type and are less than 50 yards apart...one is blooming and the other has already changed color and dropped its leaves...bizarre.

I've seen trees bloom in the Fall after a Aug/Sept hurricane.
I've had a pear tree with a blossom or two in the Fall ( no hurricane) , not more than a blossom or two though.
My dad planted a red knock out rose near a garden of my mom's that was supposed to be just blue flowers.
No one really knows why he bought it.
She gave him hell fr it being there and it never bloomed.
Until he died.
Dozens of bright red blossoms every Spring and every October, now, without fail.
She keeps asking me to move it but I figure I'll leave it right where it is. :)
