In The Woods
This Cherry is up top so it would be nice if I could get it c/s then down off the hill before the storm hits.

Severe lean on that puppy. No barber chairs ;)
Maybe the top is supported a bit & will help little.

The saws are clean an ready to go, tomorrow night I'll sharpen a few chains then Saturday grab some gas.

Stay Safe

Zap, do you cut down the tree it is leaning on to take it down?

No, it's hard to tell by this picture but the Cherry is barely touching the small maple. In pic 4823-001 if your looking from behind the tree it should roll off to the left.

I'm not sure if I'll notch the bottom but this should go smooth.

Zap, you get alot of leaners with the root ball pulled right out of the ground.
Must be the soil makeup, still have this one up in the bowl, the widowmaker came down an the Cherry dropped even more.

Only 30 percent chance, it should be okay compared to what's coming. Is Saturday the day your having family and friends over?

We never can tell how these things will act when cutting, the 28 inch bar with a clear path out will do the trick. When your cutting the back and you hear the crack u drop the saw an run like SMOKIN!

Be careful, brother. We just got a call, have an emergency "top" to cut out before the storm hits. I have a big ash tree (its a DANDY trunk), with a small top, scheduled to cut down next month. Got a call today and one of the branches broke off and the homeowner's concerned that the rest of the top may come down during this storm that's headed our way on Sunday. so we're gonna knock the top off on Saturday morning real quick (while I'm out getting the drywall for the living room project) kill two birds with one stone. We'll get the rest of the tree later next month....

Towards the bottom of the page, do you do it like that on heavy leaners?

When you get done that living room project I want you to build the little women a nice new closet, walk in preferrably, with lots of shelves! You know, the kind that take a long time to build. You got the time Scotty. Nothing better to do. Right? It sounds like the honey do list is never ending. Don't get me wrong, ya gotta love em. ;lol

With the ground so saturated I imagine the 60 MPH gusts will take down a lot of trees. Like others here on the forumn I sharpened a bunch of chains and plan on mixing more fuel later today. At least the prospect of free wood somewhat offsets the running around buttoning up the farm in anticipation of a big storm.

The ground is wet Standingdead. But we are still behind in water up hear. Man it was dry for a long time. I am glad the rain is coming again. I hope we get plenty of rain, and later (I hate to say it but...) plenty of snow. To early for snow yet. I am glad the temps are up there still. Rain will be okay. Lots of wood will be put away, I will finish today, and I may even cover the tops of the piles left outside for the winter. Then it's time to get to work on next years wood. I have to get further ahead. My plan is to have two years ahead by spring of 13.

That's the only time I dont wear hearing protection, during felling.Even a 'normal' tree.I want to be able to hear any different sounds like cracking, twigs falling etc.Have my escape path planned out, sometimes I'll think it over for a few days or weeks trying to come with the best plan.First thing is remove any fallen material/brush in the area,at least move it away from where I'll be running! ::-)

Plan it out good zap and I'm sure you can handle it fine. Actually I sort of enjoy cutting those buggers.

I think I'm all set for this, the 660 and the 390 are ready, just wondering what type of winds we will get from Sandy next week. I think tomorrow they will have a better idea for our area.
