You can still buy something very similar to the top nail puller. I just did. I was the only thing I could find that would allow me to pull ring shank nails from my deck boards.
It worked great!

hint; what holds planes togehter
 
Rivets? I've seen nuts with a hole drilled though them to hold a piece of wire also. The different sized holes suggest different gauges of something.

Bottom one is a rivet cutter, I think I have one in one of my tool boxes.
 
I have an old one of my grandfather's, if you do any framing it will come in handy at some point, although the new air driven spikes with their weakly attached heads are sometimes a challenge to pull out with it, or anything for that matter........I wish the heads of coiled air nails were a little more rugged, would help with the f-ups :)
