Is it a bad idea for me to light a fire this morning? We have sustained winds around 20 and gusting around 40. Will continue to get worse through out the day. But I'm home and it's a bit chilly and I would love to have a fire. Bad idea?

I had the same conditions this morning and built a small fire with 3 splits and did ok. I kept the air open more than usual to have it burn quicker than normal and am in a coal state now. You should be fine. Stay safe

I do really want a fire right now though. Crap on you, Sandy!

id burn one, even if it meant i had to run air at 75%. I cant see how 20mph winds should affect you if you have a decent draft?

We got winds like that last winter. Burn smaller loads and keep an eye on it. You're likely to get more draft and go through more wood. I had to cut the air back pretty well when we had high winds-I know that can help reverse the draft but I had to keep it under control burn wise. We've been steady over 10mph and up to 20 mph the past few days and we've been running 2-3 smaller splits and let it burn down to coals before bed with no overnight fire, just in case the winds spiked higher at night.

Started mine yesterday. Been burning mix of old pine and shoulder season uglies. No issues . Rather have a head start so the house isn't damp or cool when the power goes out. I approve this message.

We've had a fire going during 40mph winds without issue. I agree with the advice given to burn smaller fires and be sure that class A pipe is properly braced. Good luck to you all.

We are currently up to 40-55 mph winds in SE Mass. I started a small fire in the 602 just to take a chill off in 1 room. After the initial start with the door open the flames shot up upwards towards the top plate, they looked like red/orange arrows. I had to close the door and shut the air down to nearly nothing to keep it from overfiring.

I have two going right now as the wind and rain is making everything cold and damp. Other than everything being sluggish, no problems to report.

Forcast calls for 50 to 70 MPH gusts here tonight. Liberty is cranking away at 650 and everytime we get a strong gust the fire really takes off but thats because of my 16 ft flue straight up. Amazing we have had and inch of rain and 15 miles from my house there are blizzard warnings for the western part of my county. Just burn smaller loads to reduce the risk of the stove taking off on you

Great advice and perfect timing thanks everyone.

Winds all day here 40 to 45 mph stove burns fine but I did notice I can set it on a lower setting than usual,1to 1.5 burning larch nice.

I am concerned about burning tonight cause i have never done this.

Sometimes we get a strong gust out of no were.

We've never had a problem with wind, but then, I don't think I've had to run the stove with wind over 55 mph. I remember a couple times with high winds but just don't remember for sure the velocity so just posted the 55 that I do remember for sure.

The T-5 ran fine with steady and gusty heavy winds. Seems to make little difference with this stove. My CDW would go nuclear in the same conditions..

It's actually getting warmer out here. The weekend looks like we will be back at it, stoking...

Had a fire going most of the day, wanted to pre-heat the house in case we lost power. No issues at all...other than I over did it and we now have windows open!

My draft sucks!!!!

In the process of trying to build more het in house.
